04 xc70 audio system

Ive been driving this car for almost 5 years now and the speakers seem to not sound as good as they once did. Also the fader and balance adjustment never made any sense to me. I would like to get the system sounding as good or better than stock without having to spend a lot of money. Would it nake sense to see if some of the speakers are blown then try to replace them? I don't know the location of all the speakers. I guess i could pull the radio and use a 9 volt to the speaker wires to identify the speakers and then test each speaker. Would this be the easiest way?

Any ideas?

I converted my 05 to Kenwood HU + Focal ISS/ICU 165 + blue Volvo dash speaker with its own TPA3116 amp. Sounds better than Harman Kardon in wife's ex-XC60 in Platinum trim.

Thanks for the response. With this car I don't know where to start because it has so many speakers and I don't even know where they all are. when I used to work on car stereos I would work with 2 speakers up front and 2 in the back with a possible amp going to a subwoofer box on RCA jacks. I'm not sure how to approach this car since it seems to have a center speaker in the front. Would you be able to give me a bit more detail so I can see exactly what you did.

It has 4 speakers in doors, 2 tweeters in front doors, 2 more tweeters in D pillars. No central speaker, no amp if your HU is 6xx. Youtube has lots of videos about speaker replacement. S60 and V70 videos work equally well.
