Sounds much like the electrical part of the ignition switch is going bad, which is very common. Basically all of the factory ones have failed or will soon. Test by jiggling the key or by easing the key back and forth, while idling. Has it ever been replaced? Did you grab one from the junker?

The 850 doors will bolt right on the x70 and vice-versa. The wiring however is different between the two cars.
