Re: If you hate your door chime...
Thanks so much for posting this, I just removed mine, hallelijia. I'm going to go Office Space on that damn relay: https://youtu.be/N9wsjroVlu8 For anyone else following these instructions, it wasn't obvious to me that the relay is inside the car, not under the hood. So remove the panel above your k...

Re: Hilarious take down of the 850/S70
All gems. That review of the El Dorado Biarritz is especially awesome. And wow, an American car freak who's never seen a foot switch for brights before (around 6:20). That's like seeing someone confused by how to play a record.

Tips on attaching my old Yakima rack?
Tomorrow I plan to attach my old Yakima rack to my 2000 s70, I was wondering if anyone has any tips? It looks like the mounting point requires a slightly different shaped bracket than the one currently on my rack. I was thinking about grinding the current one down and drilling a hole to use the scre...

How to restore the drip moulding (and in praise of plastidip)
Seems like the coating on the drip mouldings (those strips above the doors, sometimes called roof trim) goes bad on all S70's. And Carlo, my new-to-me 1998 GLT, had a typical case of it: 20210202_192441.jpg But after about 2 hours of easy work both sides look like this: 20210204_165742.jpg I don't k...

Re: Has anyone had good luck with the aux in stereo mod?
Today was an excellent day in Volvoland for me. I tested the impedance between R and common of a few pairs of headphones, and all were 30 ohms, except one pair of "high impedance headphones", which were 50 ohms. The headphone jack that I added to my stereo only had 5 ohms though... I had a...

Re: Any clever ideas for mounting a new double-DIN stereo?
A shim for the win! Found a piece of wood that was the perfect size. And for anyone else who comes this way, removing the climate control box was the key to everything. Thanks so much @MoVolvos for that tip. Here's a couple of pics, including my anti-crackhead faceplate. I plan to make a bezel to ne...

Re: Led bulbs for doors, front dash, glovebox and trunk?
Oh, ha. To be fair, where I do that, so does everyone else, and if someone is going to steal a car it seems unlikely that they'd choose mine. Car thieves have poor taste, thankfully.

Re: Running a ground wire for a trunk subwoofer
Cassis ground for the win! I even got fancy and used a terminal block in case I install another amp. For no good reason in hindsight, would have been easy enough to add more grounding points. Every time I browse the r/CarAV reddit I wind up buying some other gizmo I probably didn't need, ha. https:/...

Re: Key turning issue
Well I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it, since I probably should have tried it when I was first having issues with the lock, but graphite lube for the win! From the first spray the problem mostly disappeared, a little twisting of the key and now it's completely solved. Thank you!

Anyone want a free 2000 S70? Must go ASAP. Near Petaluma, California
My old 2000 S70 SE has a blown head gasket but still runs fine and has for a few thousand miles. You need to add coolant every now and then, I just use water. There's a theory that it won't pass smog because of that, but that's unconfirmed. Runs well, has something like 175,000 miles, in pretty good...
