Michelin X-IceI3 closeout at Tire Rack

It looks like the Michelin X-Ice I3 tires are being discontinued. Tire Rack has some incredible pricing. I just bought a set of four in 195/60R15 for my Cetus winter wheels for $266, which included tax and a $40 credit for picking them up at their local distribution center.

Re: cleaning water pump mating surface

I find that a piece of 1/8" acrylic (plexiglas) ground to a knife edge works quite well and absolutely will not gouge the mating surface.

Re: A General Thank You!

Cutting the tails off the Dollar Store commas goes really slowly with a Dremel. I'd like to use an angle grinder, but I need a proper literary device to hold them.

Re: Anybody see this?

BlackBart wrote: 12 Apr 2021, 14:33 General advice is don't buy URO brand anything. It's poor quality.

URO rubber products are molded from a proprietary formula whose main ingredients are diesel soot and spit.

Re: power steering pump seal kit

IMG_0536.JPG This is an autopsy photo of my first attempt. Incredibly, even with these badly mangled o-rings it didn't leak, although the steering was fairly stiff at idle. There was plenty of assist when the engine was above 1000 RPM, though. The second one I did seems to be working perfectly. I d...

Re: 2000 V70 AWD 56 engine coolant now 1 in. higher in reservoir

From time to time I'll drop in here and mention that my coolant level is much steadier since I replaced the cap on my car. The rubber sealing washer broke in two pieces quite easily on the old one.

Carry on.

Re: A piece of broken off cam lip

You've got 2 challenges to overcome when using epoxy here. The first is that the porous cast aluminum is saturated with oil. The second is the oxide layer on the surface of the aluminum. Epoxy sticks great to aluminum with no oxidation, badly when there is an oxide layer. The challenge lies in etchi...

Re: 850 Tool question

ATF and acetone! You must have grown up on a farm Erik. I'll mention a few more esoteric tricks. One of them is lightly sharpening your torx/allen bit on a bench grinder while spinning it, to create a burr on the end, which is super hard and digs into the inside of the recess. The other trick, which...
