Re: 2004 xc70 jerk shifting into reverse, with new valve body
The adaptation is the one where I drive the car in various different rpms, and the orange triangle would light when the upshifts and downshifts are learned. I don't think the transmission whines, but I will pay attention to it next time I drive. There is no code at all. I would think the control mo...

Re: 2004 xc70 jerk shifting into reverse, with new valve body
Check your collar sleeve, it may be almost stripped. Clunk on acceleration after coasting is one of signs.

Re: 2004 xc70 jerk shifting into reverse, with new valve body
I did not read the entire post you linked regarding the GM VB swap. So I will ask - did you adjust any of the solenoids before install or did you install them as provided? I ask this b/c when I rebuilt my 2001 XC70 VB with the TransGo kit there were adjustments on the solenoids which are used to fin...

Re: 2004 xc70 jerk shifting into reverse, with new valve body
Thanks, those are very detailed and helpful. I guess I will first check the currents through the solenoids against the diagrams you referenced, which though is probably not the problem but should be easy to carry out using VIDA, so might as well check it out. Would be great if it's some external el...

Re: 2004 xc70 jerk shifting into reverse, with new valve body
If I have some time tomorrow I'll see if I can get solenoid current readings from my car. The B3 Low/Reverse brake doesn't have an external pressure tap, it's one of the two fluid paths between the valve body and case where the two o-ring type seals are needed. Solenoids S3 and S5 turn on for revers...

Re: 2004 xc70 clicking when turning the steering wheel
Suspect #1 & #2 are the joint on the lower end of the steering shaft (#13) or the joint on the Countershaft (#9).

Re: GKN passenger side cv axle carrier bearing noise
I have yet to change a passenger cv, so maybe I'm wrong, but this seems like a non-issue since this is an exterior part intentionally exposed to the elements, cv issues are mostly from the boots, and this part is not intended to be sealed like an axle bearing. On top of that it's secured to the engi...

Re: GKN passenger side cv axle carrier bearing noise
- Old bearing will sound "rao rao rao etc" when spun bc the grease dries out. - This is a brand-new GKN axle, so the bearing should be smooth and quiet. Do you have another axle (used) to compare? - GKN is reputable brand (the original mfg), so I guess it is OK. - The carrier bearing is se...

Re: Rear trailing arm bushing XC70 2004 questions
I found using a longitudinally positioned floor jack is easier than conventionally placed jack + strap. This way it pulls the control arm closer to the front of the car when you jack it up, which makes it possible to align holes.
