Re: Best Spark plug for the 850 T or V70 ?
I like the Bosch FR7DC (aka 7555) in my '97 855 GLT. I had the OEM platinum plugs and found that if I started the car and ran it for less than about 1 minute, it would not start easily the next time due to platinum tip fouling. The copper FR7DCs have not exhibited this problem. I need to regap them ...

'97 Volvo 855 Wagon Rear Shock Absorber DIY tutorial
I replaced the rear shock absorbers and mounts on my '97 855 GLT at ~147K miles yesterday. I was replacing the shocks because they were good and worn out, with sagging rear suspension height (~ 1-2cm of sag), visible leaking oil on the outside of the shock tubes, and rubbing of one of the tires on t...

P80 Idle Control slide or IAC 9454745 Cleaning
It got warm here a couple of days ago for the first time this year (~80-85F) and our '97 855 GLT Volvo at 155k miles suddenly started to have a wandering idle speed and stalling at idle, but only when the car was fully warmed up. The stalling symptom was worst right after restarting the car after it...

DIY Rear Bumper Bracket Repair: 1997 Volvo 855 GLT
Our 1997 Volvo 855 GLT wagon was recently hit on the rear bumper. I took the rear bumper off and replaced the brackets, bolts and washers and I took some photos along the way to show what I did in case it might be of use to somebody else faced with a similar project. As others have noted, there was ...

ECC climate control "Blinky Lights" solved--Driver's Damper
I fixed the "2 1 1" code on my '97 855 GLT by removing and cleaning the contacts inside the damper motor, saving ~$30 for a used damper and ~$100 for a new one. This fix is very similar to what what phat78ta wrote up here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27...

"Original Technical Publications" review/comments/questions
Note: I originally posted this in the "Volvo Parts Dealers" section of the site about a week and a half ago, and there was no comment... perhaps because that's not a frequently-checked forum. Apologies if you are already aware of the post below: Just wondering if anybody has purchased the ...

DIY FPR vacuum line replacement
I was out looking around in the engine compartment (97 855 GLT with ~162k miles) for opportunities to fix something this morning. I've already replaced most of the vacuum lines in the car, but I found a short crumbly vacuum connector that I had overlooked the last few times I checked the car. This c...

Radiator replacement write-up, illustrated
The radiator on my '97 855 GLT developed a crack in the plastic endcap near the upper radiator inlet. I replaced the radiator with a new one from Volvo (OEM Volvo made by Valeo). Along the way I took photos and wrote the whole procedure up step-by-step. It was a big job and I took lots of photos so ...

Re: Key FOB stopped working
I had a similar problem with two key fobs for my '97 855 GLT. Back in September I opened up the unit, cleaned the contacts and added a thin copper strip to the switch mechanism. The fobs have been working fine since then. You can see my little write up here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/...
