I think Cees is on the right track. Boost related.

Look for a correlation between the cutout and boost rather than just rpm. Do you have a boost gauge? I can’t remember if your year/model has them.

My ARD comment is statistically unfounded. Just bits and pieces I've seen. Google it. Remember, like MVS, people with problems are the minority in the real world. The vast majority don't get on fora to speak up when nothing's wrong.
