if it goes into limp mode and no codes can be read, I would get a better scanner.
Limp mode should show trans limiting and spark plug codes.

Did you disconnect the battery to charge it, I guess not. If it takes a charge when disconnected then theres a short in...maybe the brake controller or abs motor. You can try pulling that fuse and see if it parasitic draw goes away, directing you where the problem is. Problems with the abs pump can ...

Your 2001 uses the first generation electronic throttle module (ETM) which lives for about 100-150k miles then can fault. It may or may not generate fault codes when first failing.

See the ETM forum or discussion. You need VIDA To diagnose this definitively
