It sounds like your wiper shaft(s) are seized tightly in the housing. That must be why they are not coming out. It's been a long time, so I don't recall details, but if you can get those shafts and links out of hte housing without removing the connection at the motor, then that should be fine. I wou...

I tried a few things in the end, none of which worked - I found a second hand linkage and motor at a reasonable price so thought I'd take a punt. Fitted it and everything now working fine. Finally !

Don’t sweat the big trip. That’s about 2400 miles so 49-50 hours of driving. Get either car to Stage zero, refresh fluids and consumable parts, then hit the road. I would want a wagon for that kind of trip.

On about a $5000 budget of acquisition and stage 0, you can drive a luxury car for 100-150k miles in the Volvo brand. That’s hard to beat
