Re: Long trip prep? ('04 XC)

I just woke up from a nightmare; your j-hose tear was the star of it. I also dreamt of a new avatar - in it was a dozen eggs on a nice looking Volvo grill in the background, and in the foreground was a potato perched on top of an ignition coil, perched on top of a front wheel bearing assy, perched o...

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Definitely dodged a big bullet there Shiloh :o One thing that’s always bothered me about P2’s is how the arse end of these cars reminds me rather vividly of a “sulky”. As in, the little trailer that is towed behind a walk-behind zero-turn mower - the operator stands on it whilst operating said ZT mo...

Replacing REAR subframe trailing arm bushings

One thing that’s always bothered me about P2’s is how the arse end of these cars reminds me rather vividly of a “sulky”. As in, the little trailer that is towed behind a walk-behind zero-turn mower - the operator stands on it whilst operating said ZT mower. I’ve replaced quite a few parts trying to ...

Re: 2004 v70 "BrakeFailure,Stop Safely"

I didn't mean to scare you by posting that about Xemodex, my apologies. Your symptoms just sounded much like I recall mine as being. Edit: I'd totally try swapping the BCM module into your running car. For the blind work you'll need torx bits, can't recall which size but quite long bolts come out, t...

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Nice backdrop on photo 1!! Interesting, I always assumed your S80 was T6. Very nicely done S80! I always enjoy your infrequent posts. Edit: 282K XC70 Engine oil/filter/ATF/BG change, tire rotation. Today the "Dirty Volvo", as our 4 year old daughter calls it, got a gift from a parted out S...

Re: V70 wheel and tire size

The comfort factor is pretty noticeable, even between 16's & 17's. I don't particularly care for the looks of the 15's though. One small added benefit to running the smaller wheels will be a slightly lower MOI. I reckon it's safe to say that the moment of inertia is lower with the smaller wheel ...

Re: Small leak in exhaust system

Like Oragex pointed out, look in that vicinity, but also at the resonator (just rear of the cat/flange). The resonators rot out seemingly more quickly than the remainder of the exhaust. No big deal, just cut it out and replace with 2.5” pipe. 2.5” OD pipe will just slide right over the back of the f...

Re: Small leak in exhaust system

On AWD P2’s the driveshaft that’s sends power to the rear final drive is located above the exhaust. Occasionally when driving in rain/slush the underside of the exhaust can cool to the point that it contracts. When the underside contracts, the top side of the resonator is pushed upwards & can co...

Re: 2004 s60 timing belt job

Don’t replace the entire SERPENTINE belt tensioner. Just replace the PULLEY. The tensioner spring itself doesn’t wear out. The bearing in the pulley DOES. For the TIMING BELT you replace the tensioner as a whole as the pulley alone is NOT replaceable. The main reason for replacing the SERP belt pull...

Friendly reminder to avoid Lemforder/Chinese strut top bearing mounts/plates

Hi everyone. I just wanted to share my most recent experience with these extremely low lifespan units. I bought a small pile of the Lemforder's a while back. Incidentally, this was around the time Lemforder changed manufacturing of these from Germany to PR of China. As stated by several smart people...
