Re: What non automotive projects and repairs are you doing?

Several years ago I purchased a large, commercial type MIG welder from a pawn shop. It never made good welds, even for flux core wire, after I got it set up. I thought it was operator error. Recently, I started research on internet. I found that MIG welders on single phase power use large capacitor...

Re: Finally... P80 AWD Delta Link Rear Suspension Swap

If it wasn't for the fuel tank nonsense and the lack of actual support for the AWD suspension stuff, I wouldn't mind having that instead of the Delta link set-up. I mean I do custom stuff all of the time for my cars anyway, but I have other projects to direct that energy towards. ( I would REALLY li...

Re: 98 v70: fail to start when cold

The coolant temp sensor would be a good place to start. Checking the connector for corrosion, as that causes issues too.

The FP relay will also give you cold-start fits.

Re: Identifying turbo vs NA axles

I just tossed an original NA pass axle over the weekend. The inner axle (between the carrier bearing and the transmission) is a smaller diameter than the turbo ones.

Re: Identifying turbo vs NA axles

*Shrug*

I dunno. All of my cars have been 850's.

The NA axle was from my '96 GLT manual.

Re: 1997 850 out of alignment after CV Axle replacement

Yeah, it's pretty difficult to even get things back together (Depending on how you took stuff apart) if things are off.

What was your disassembly process to get the old axle out?

Re: 1997 850 out of alignment after CV Axle replacement

I only removed the control arm and the CV axle. I think I know what I did wrong. I think I forgot to straighten the steering wheel before tighting everything up. The steering location at the time of disassembly would have nothing to do with it. The most recent ones I have done involve disconnecting...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

I used Textar parking brake pads and those were fine. Maybe they have improved their compounds as they used to make the wheel really dirty with brake dust, just like the OE pads. I HATED the Textars on the wife's car when we did the 302 conversion. Noisy and dusty. We have Bosch on there currently,...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Swapped a new carrier bearing and replaced the boots on a used PS axle, to replace the new one that made as much noise as the old one I took out did. https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20854T5/2023/Drivetrain/carrierbearing_1.jpg https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/p...
