May not match your emissions setup but sounds like those few codes will be minor. 1997 T5 was Motronic 4.4, the 1996 turbos were Motronic 4.3 so better to *not* get a 96 or earlier ECU. That chip isn't a needed item. Not sure what it is, but it's not on a few of the turbo boards I've looked at.

There should be no problem with mod the board you have. They're surface mount components, and there is already solder on the pads on the board.

Our '97 US-spec GLT has an emblem.
