Re: '98 S/V/C70 AC/Cooling fan routine question.

All M4.3 and 4.4 (Mot 5.xx on P80 for that matter) use A/C high pressure sensor and pressure level to select fan speed (hi or low). Engine temp also is used but usually if fan is running for A/C pressure reason it exceeds the cooling needs for engine. The separate EFI and Ignition on earlier 850 use...

Re: VS M4.4 tuning dead? Start again here?

The M4.4 is pretty well mapped out, so to speak, but at the end of the day, it’s also clear that the M4.4 ECUs aren’t compatible with the M4.3 cars without pretty extensive modification. Pretty far from plug and play. Outside the known territory, there are thousands of differences that are either u...

Re: P80 Positive Temp Coefficient Nipple "PTC VALVE" To drill, or not to drill

I first posted these in ZionXIX's thread https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=84698. It's been 18 months now, with no ill effects on my 95 R. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/download/file.php?id=38922&mode=view https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/downloa...

Re: '98 S70 is at 95k miles - what do I need to save up to fix next?

Chuck W wrote: 14 May 2019, 06:11 When was the timing belt done last?
+1, if it hasn't been done before I would HIGHLY recommend taking care of that. Many people overlook the fact that on low mileage cars, parts still fail due to time. Timing belt should be replaced every 10 years regardless of mileage on low mileage cars.

Re: '98 S70 is at 95k miles - what do I need to save up to fix next?

When was the timing belt done last? And by timing belt Chuck means if the timing rollers, tensioner and belt have ever been done. Leave the Volvo water pump alone, some people foolishly replace it at the ~100k timing belt job. But the water pump can easily go another timing belt change. If the roll...

My thoughts on the 850's interior design

In 17 years of driving my 1997 850, not one day did I think "this is better in new cars" about any interior feature. I can go on and on about the remarkable and awesome design of my 850. The interior never once felt poorly designed. Good design lasts. The controls were properly placed. The...

Re: Comparing ECU’s (96 850 vs 98 V70)

Turbo 96 is Motronic 4.3, not 4.4. 97 850 GLT with the low pressure turbo engine was the first turbo 4.4 with the 98 high pressure turbo versions getting 4.4 in 1998. My recollection is that 4.3 in a 4.4 car gives an air conditioner issue as the pressure cycling switch on low side line is a signal ...
