850 and S/V/C70 non-turbo vacuum lines
As a companion to a similar thread for turbo cars (https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=63615), here is a thread dedicated to documenting the vacuum lines in the non-turbo (NA) 850 and 98 S/V/C70. I know that what I am posting here is good for 95+ without EGR, someone else will h...

Re: Throttle Body Cleaning
Charles - you can use that CRC cleaner with turbo engines. The turbocharger is upstream of the TB, so unless time reversal comes into play you can't get the cleaner into the turbo - there isnt enough difference between the engines of turbo and NA cars to merit that warning. My guess is someone used ...

Re: New cars that shut off at stop lights and stop signs?
The starter is beefed up and so is flywheel. Volvo has had this on some 5 cylinders in EU for several years. All of the new 4 cylinders have it. I have been repairing cars for 40 + years and cars that die when you stop have been a big part of repairs. I took time getting used to it. Volvo's start-st...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
Yeah, you live and you learn! I still scour the NYC craigslist ads to see if another one like that pops up. I'd love to give one another go with a real $250 turbo. But then again, I think I'd find the same pleasure from a T5 manual! Just prepare, things break on Saabs... Make sure you have some hig...

V70 S70 Squeaky Dash - Another DIY
I bought a 1998 V70 in which the left side of the dash was maddeningly squeaky. Just a touch would stop the racket, but it's tough driving with your left arm while your right arm is poking through the steering wheel. The right side of the dash is rock solid. I read several posts about repairing the ...

PSA - 99 V70 AWD drive axles - Check and tighten
If you start getting unexplained engagement of the STC/ABS on a AWD check and verify the drive axle bolts are tight. I found the passenger's side wasn't torqued to spec. I'm unsure if it ever was as no work was performed on it during my ownership. Special thanks to Matty Moo. If I ever require a rep...
