I would argue they are equally crap along with most plastic that is 25+ years old. It all goes brittle and it is russian roulette undoing any trim. I put these under the fittings and pulled up.

They engaged the retainer rings surprisingly well.

Thanks to the other threads on here that showed the construction of the fittings as it's impossible to see under there.
