I did my '03 XC about two years ago after listening to it squeal for about 5 years, still silent today! These motors are too expensive to not do this.

Everyone here speaks really good English although the primary language is Croatian which seems to be a Slavic/ Baltic dialect. Only the older people don’t always speak English fluently.

Check the shifter lock cable on the left side of the console, you'll need to take the drivers side trim off the console side. there's a yellow connector block on the end of the cable that attaches it to the shifter that may be broken. It looks like the correct one to me. The aftermarket ones will often not have the same exterior shape casing as the GKN originals. Check length when you have your old one out.

Feel free to use my picture MoVolvos, cmayo1, we’re going to need a picture of both the block and the oil pan, this doesn’t make any sense unless there’s a chunk of iron broken off or something as BlackBart suggested.

I see what you mean now, mine has the same thing. I don't know what that "flange" is for on the block but it is obviously not used. Probably there to provide casting commonality between engines. In any event, it is not a bolthole and doesn't affect sealing of the pan. It might just be a co...
