06 S40 Whining noise ?vacuum/intake leak/oil trap
I am baffled trying to locate a whining noise which sounds like its coming from under/behind rubber intake seals and is especially prominant when I listen with hollow plastic tube to my ear on the intake area passenger side. It sounds like an air/vacuum leak. When the engine is turned off, the whini...

Re: 06 S40 Brake Pad Replacement - Help Compressing Piston?
Here are some pics and notes which show the procedure I used to complete the job. 1. Undo the cover on the parking brake lever 2. Undo the nut for adjusting the parking so the parking brake lead slackens. This will reduce pressure on the caliper piston. Here is a pic of the tool volvo uses to compre...

Re: 06 S40 Brake Pad Replacement - Help Compressing Piston?
Finally figured it out. The face of the piston has two small opposing recessed holes for a special tool to fit in. I just so happened to have a two pronged wrench that is for my makita grinder and it was a perfect fit. I turned the piston clockwise with the wrench while applying downward force and i...

06 S40 Brake Pad Replacement - Help Compressing Piston?
I am replacing the rear Pads on the 06 S40 and the caliper piston is not compressing. I released the bleeder valve and put a C-clamp on to compress the piston and it won't budge. What am I missing here?

Re: 06 S40 Higher rpms before transmission switches gears
In addition to the transmission flush what about trying the software download for the transmission at the dealership? The cost of the software download is about $200 and I really don't know enough about this to say it's worth trying. Thoughts please!!! I've done the flush on my 02 XC70 before, Is th...

06 S40 Higher rpms before transmission switches gears
I have a 06 S40 automatic with 62k and the rpms run higher than usual before switching gears. If I am in lower gears and increasing speed, rather than a seamless gear change throughout all gears, there is also a slight sensation when the next gear engages that was not present before. I took a look a...

02 V70XC 200k How do I reset my "urgent" airbag me
Recently my fuel pump developed a leak in the top center plastic tube junction area. I found a hairline crack in the plastic and filled the top recess with JB weld to fix. In order to gain access to it, I had to remove the rear passenger seat and disconnect the airbag wiring clip. Once I fixed and r...

I asked for OEM because I have had great performance from them. My 02 V70XC has 171K on original rotors and I have only changed pads once and they still have 50% life left. I personally don't want to experiment to find out which aftermarket ones are good or not. I completed the job yesterday with OE...

Brake fluid in a rainbow of colors - What a concept! I will be doing rotors and pads so fcpgroton will be my one stop shop for all. My 02 XC70 has 170,000 miles on original rotors and only changed pads once. Also got nearly 80k out of my last set of Pirelli Scorpion tires. Should I think about new g...

Thank you for the tip. - I don't have a power bleeder but I do have a spring loaded ball valve attached to clear tubing which fits onto the bleeder valve. This allows you to view fluid being pumped out and no reverse pressure sucks any air back into the caliper and I guess you could assume the clamp...
