still need help

Tailor -

I appreciate your help - I read the links you suggest prior to my posting.

Maybe you could help interpret the pictures, but from them I still cannot tell which way the replacement gear is facing. Should your eyes be better than mine, maybe you can tell.

Thanks

Help please - refresher on Odometer fix for 850

It has been too long since I started this project, and I cannot remember the gear orientation for the infamous 850 odometer gear (1994 NA 855, 225,500 mi). Can you explain which way the 12 tooth gear for a Volvo 850 faces as it is installed? Does the flat side go toward the other large white g...

Lifters

O'man The normal Seafoam manifold treatment would not reach the lifters. Seafoam actually suggests you pour some into the crankcase for that. I have been reluctant to do so, but maybe if it is fairly soon to the next oil change - still not real comfy putting it in the crankcase. Smoke around the tur...

Bearing Hub

Jonesy This is a hard question as I do not know you. I have performed many repairs myself, and feel I could do this as well, but when mine needed to be done I was already in the the tire shop for new tires. I asked them to give me a break since they already had the tire off. I would have tried it my...

bearing hub

Prior to disassembly, try to check if it is better turning in one direction (at higher speeds) and worse in the other direction. Do not apply the brakes during this test (naturally please do so if you must stop for something - shame we live in a litigious world). If is does get better turning one wa...

front hub???

Hi - Here is something to consider: The noise will probably change with either engine speed or car speed. If it changes with car speed it could be anything form the output side of the transaxle downstream. Hoping it is not the transaxle itself, that pretty much leaves CV joints and hubs (assuming fr...

850 Seatback cable fix

I did this on my 94 850. One thing I did was to use small plastic wire zip ties rather than mess with trying to reinstall the "hog rings" I used a heat gun to warm the ferrule at the end and it came right off easily once warmed. Then I used a wire stripper to shorten the cable housing, and...

I have done this on my 94 NA 850 and never had any indication of particulate matter being pushed out the exhaust. But smoke - heck yeah!
