Re: Source of screeching noise?
Update: RESOLVED!! It was the tensioner pulley! Thanks for the suggestions! Here's is what I did: * Bought a 3/8" OD clear vinyl tube from HomeDepot to use it as a stethoscope to track down the noise source. Boy! I was so impressed by this! I was able to locate other minute problems. I spent t...

Source of screeching noise?
Hi Volvo'ers! I started getting an annoying screeching sound when engine is at 1.5-2 RPM (whether it's idle or driving). My car is 04 Volvo XC70 with 173k miles. Car doesn't make noise at lower or higher RPMs. I recorded the sound here: https://youtu.be/eVdeezYGXBA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dA...

Re: DIY: 2005 XC90 2.5T Throttle Body Cleaning
I had loping when idle on my 04 Volvo XC70 with 173k miles. It wasn't very serious like in https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=97408. No RPM change nor engine codes, but it was enough to annoy tf out of me. Would notice it most whenever I stop at traffic lights. It had s...

Re: Help with erratic revving up and down
For me, the very erratic idle (that I've shown in video) got fixed by just cleaning the MAF sensor. However, I still had loping when idle. It wasn't serious as shown in video, no RPM change, but it was enough to annoy tf out of me. Would notice it most whenever I stop at traffic lights. I tried clea...

Re: Help with erratic revving up and down
Hey folks, I just wanted to share an update. I started with cleaning the MAF sensor since it was the fastest job. 10 min job. And booyah it worked like magic! I've tested the car for over a week now with temperatures close to 100 in CA (for those outside the US, over 37 celcius) and didn't see the s...

Re: Help with erratic revving up and down
On a turbo , that’s probably loose induction somewhere That you mention this, there was a punctured hose that I replaced a few months ago (vacuum hose to manifold); I need to check what else could be loose/punctured that I may not be seeing. Great suggestion, I'll start with this! Not a cleaner. MA...

Re: Help with erratic revving up and down
You should clean the throttle body. I wrote a DIY in forum, basically you can slide the TB out to the driver side for cleaning Cool. Found your DIY post https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=78629 . I'll give it a shot and see if that solves the issue. Never done it befo...

Re: Help with erratic revving up and down
No error codes. Yeah in the past it happened when the weather was very hot; it's close to 90 these days in CA, so...

Help with erratic revving up and down
Howdy Volvo experts! When I started the car today, it wasn't as smooth as usual. Felt it was choking. Then had this continuous revving up and down. It continued for a while then went away (sometimes it doesn't go away and continues actually). I tried to start the car again multiple times and got the...
