I would think that it's also used by the onboard computer, because the little snowflake to the right of the clock goes on when the temperature goes below freezing and I think (I'm not sure) it switches the transmission to 'W' mode.

It's located near the passenger side foglight, slightly towards the center. It is a plastic plug with a wire running out of it stuck into the plastic cover under the front bumper, it should be really easy to find.

I think it's the same for everybody. The sensor is located just under the front bumper and the heat from the road, especially during the summer will cause the reading to be high.

I plan on removing the strut in question over the weekend. After I've removed the spring from the strut is there some way I can tell if the shock is still good? Strut mounts should be OK, they were replaced a month ago.

Busted shock or something worse?

When driving over deep potholes (I live in NYC so there's lots of 'em) I hear a clanking noise coming from my right front wheel and I get what seems like excessive vibrations in the steering wheel. I recently replaced a bunch of parts in the front end (shock mounts & bushings, tie rods, ball joi...

How To Tell If Turbocharger Is Working OK?

I recently broke a vacuum hose on my '98 S70 GLT (84k miles). I was told that the hose regulates the turbo wastegate and that if it was broken then I would get no turbo boost. Seeing as how the turbo on my car only adds about 10% to performance (168 HP - 190 HP) and since I really couldn't tell a di...

Vacuum leak or faulty O2 sensor?

This is a continuation of a previous post...thanks to all who replied. I had been getting bad fuel mileage on my '98 S70 GLT (84k miles) to go with a strong gas smell coming out of the exhaust, but no CEL. After being advised by different people I decided to first look at vacuum leaks as the source ...

After doing a little research I thought that my problem was most likely a vacuum leak (I haven't had the codes read since I had no CLE) and set about checking the rubber vacuum elbows. I started by removing the battery and tray and looking at the vacuum pump. I didn't notice any damaged lines, howev...

Horrible fuel economy after tuneup

I just gave my recently purchased '98 S70 GLT w/ 84000 miles a tuneup (plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter) and I am still getting terrible fuel economy (about 10-12 MPG city, not really driving fast). However there are no other problems with the way the car is running; performance seems OK, no rough idl...

Key won't come out of ignition lock

Hi all,

The key won't go to the 0 position in my '98 S70, it goes to I, II and III (it starts and runs OK) but it stops about 1/8" before 0 and will go no further. Has anybody ever experienced this problem and, if so, what is the solution? Thanks. Steve
