Oh snap! I have ODBII dongle that works on wifi. The application I use with it on my iPhone called "DashCmd", didn't work with the reset light. I wish I had seen your post earlier! Although, since I don't have an android phone or the $50 dongle, maybe I still came out ahead. We shall see.

Hey I just ordered an OTC service and Oil light reset tool from a guy on eBay. He says the 1998 V70 is listed in the manual. That’s what I have. Anyhow, this tool is plentiful on eBay for $75-150 range. When I get mine, I’ll let you know how it goes for me.

Roger, I looked up the mount I purchase about a year ago used for this conversion. So much we love about this car. Cell Phone Mount for 03-06 XC90 that doesn't suck

This is a permanent fix for a cell phone mount for our XC90's from 2003-2006. I've tried so many mounts and they all fail. Most recently, I was using a vent mount and after many months, my vent vanes were mangled. No only that, the mount blocked the airflow. Well, I was tired of that. This is my pro...

Actually, I think the problem is a lever that activates a microswitch.

Should work, but I do think it's a stopgap. Stainless won't make it any better. In fact if it's thin, you may not get enough change to close the gap. I used pretty thick plastic ties. It's worked a few years but I fully expect to have to remove the compressor clutch and space it out properly one day.

Re: Are you an XC90 owner? Want to be a moderator?

Hey, I'd be glad to help as long as there are no set times. I am so busy at my company these days that I just don't hang on the sites as much as I used to. I do maintain 2 Volvos for the family though. I recently got diverted by an old BMW 6-series. So now I hop on there a lot too. At the end of the...

It's been a week now and I am glad to report that the car is running awesomely. It's back to it's old self again and there are no engine lights to deal with anymore. I am so glad that I won't have to worry about this. One last parting shot of the family car, that is now being driven by my daughter. ...

So I dropped the car off at a Volvo Specialist today and they did a leak down test. Good news, #5 only lost 5% in the test. Definitely not a burnt valve. Whew! Re: Burned Valve Database DATA ONLY or a P0455 code will be set

Just jumping onto this thread. After a few months of trying to track down a P0305 (and replacing just about every ignition part), I took it to a shop this morning. The first inclination was a burnt valve. They are doing a leak down test to be sure. I may be adding to this database soon.

Wow! This is another marathon misfire thread. These are usually tracked down pretty quick. Your compression numbers are probably falling due to cranking battery drain. 1. Check compression. 2. When you swap 4 and 5 take off the connector and put it back on the new injector in the same place. I think you are right that you won't reach without straining. Like the spark plug, injector and injector wiring can be tested by swapping them around. One at a time of course! How long did the Volvo (2nd) one last? 1st radiator lasted until 88K, when it was replaced. So the second radiator lasted pretty long at 152K miles. Still, I'm a little surprised as the car has been in Northern California all it's life and the weather is not what I'd call "harsh". :P Now the car ha...

3rd radiator at 240K

So last week my 2nd Volvo OEM radiator gave way. What's up with that? The aluminum part was fine, but the plastic neck connected to the upper radiator hose cracked clean through. This left my daughter (who drives the car now) stranded. My wife picked her up and I had to go tend to the car after work...

What is the name of this hose - evaporator leak?

I was changing out my radiator and noticed a broken hose. It's a short piece from the check valve to another part (T-junction) I am uncertain about.

Could this be causing my gross Evap leak code?

Does anyone know the part number or name for this hose?

So is the timing belt change of the XC90 really similar to the T5?
I actually performed the timing belt change on my T5 about 2 months ago.

Were there any especially tricky parts?

V70 AWD - canister is at the front of the car, tucked inside the bumper in front of the drivers side tire. Pull it down and have a look at the hoses on top of the canister. If it's not cracked there, follow the hose back to the gas tank area. Ramps would be advisable :) OK, dumb question. Most post...

I just used 800 grit sandpaper. There wasn't a lot to clean off for me. The gasket mostly stick to the water pump itself. I didn't have to scrape with a razor or any of that. DosBricks - I saw you are in south Texas. I grew up in Texas and went to high school in the Corpus Christi area. I didn't come across too many Volvos down in Tejas. I order all my stuff from www.ipdusa.com. They sell OEM rotor and I have had great luck with OEM, but also with Zimmermans (German brand). You can see a picture of the Zimmermans on my website: http://thehuangs.com/?s=brakes&x=0&y=0 As for the lip, here's a close up of the lip that had formed in my ...

Re: Volvo XC90 Front Brake Job

I used the OEM Volvo front rotors (www.ipdusa.com) and Akebono pads on the XC90. They have been great. Very smooth and quiet with no signs of any weirdness. I am about to order new rear rotors for our XC90. On our V70 T5, I use Zimmerman rotors along with Akebono pads. The Aftermarket ones I had bef...

Re: Static pops on all speakers

Ok, no responses. I guess this means that there's no one with a better idea. I scheduled a visit to the dealer for the $219 diagnostic. Ouch. I'll post back whatever I find out in hopes that it'll result in something useful for others.

Re: DIY: 1998 Volvo V70 Rear Shock Absorber (BilsteinTC) & S

Thanks for this write up. I attacked my rear shocks on my V70 T5 wagon today. I replaced them with Bilsteins and also got new upper mounts from IPD. BTW the IPD upper shock mounts came with new bolts and nuts. I guess this is in case you break yours. I gotta say that I feel a bit blessed as I had no...

Static pops on all speakers

Our family XC90 began to have static pops in the sound system. It's light static and happens at very regular intervals. When I first heard it, I thought there was something lose in the car like a interior trim panel. It's not very loud, but it's consistent and very noticeable. It seems to happen mor...

Re: Assembling additional parts list for a new Failed Parts

I got one to add. The Alarm Status indicator that sits in the middle of the dashboard right against the windshield on my V70 T5. The plastic is crumbling and it won't stay put. It appears to be sun damage to me. I posted a picture asking what it was and got several replies from other people that had...

Hey thanks for the lead. $70 is better than $95!
In fact, it's the best price I have seen so far. For some weird reason, all the web searches return a lot of Russian sites. Hmm..

Re: What is this part called?

Hey, thanks SO much for the information. I was able to find it with the part number. I wasn't having any luck trying to do a regular text search or description. However, I can't believe how much they want for it! $95. http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/products/Incarsensor/1178978/9171846.html I'm go...

Re: What is this part called?

Many thanks for such a speedy response! Now to comb the web for this part.
The plastic (tan) part of mine is literally crumbling. piece are breaking off as I try to reposition it. Since it'll never seat correctly now, I figured it time to get a new one.

This is a sensor that sits on the dash near the windshield. It's function is a receiver for the keyfob remote and the red light flashes to show that the alarm is armed. http://thehuangs.com/images/RemoteSensor.JPG Does anyone know what this is called? I need a new one as the plastic mount for mine i...

Steps to Remove Rear Bumper Cap Please!

Recently a Hummer rear ended our XC90. There wasn't too much damage but the backup sensors in the rear bumper got punched into the bumper itself. The part (rear backup sensor) doesn't look damaged and it seems that if I could just get behind the bumper cap, I could push it back through. The question...

Re: Volvo XC90 Front Brake Job

Yes you do have to remove the retaining spring, but it wasn't hard at all. Just a pair of needle nosed pliers and it was easy to get off and then snap back on. The hardest part is getting the 2 bolts loose that hold the caliper on. Those things get REALLY tight over several years of heat cycling fro...

Re: Volvo XC90 Front Brake Job

@Sciotobob - sounds to me that you did exactly what I described above. I can also finish the job in 1.5-2 hours. It's not so hard if you just get the caliper off. The hardest part for me was to get the super tight bolts off!

A while back I had the hood of a Nissan Maxima redone for an extremely good price. I was friends with the owner of the body shop and he let me hang out here and do the work. We took the hood to bare metal, but it wasn't hard. He had this industrial strength aircraft urethane stripper. You wear thick...

I'll have to go check it out. I also posted a leather seat repair thread elsewhere in this forum. Just search for my pos...

Re: Volvo XC90 - Why you love yours!

Rebuilt transmissions in the UK have the parts that are know to cause the failure replaced with redesigned parts. Some of the replacement transmissions at the service shop I use are reported to have over 200,000 miles on them now and are still OK. Can you specify what parts were causing the failure...
