Long Term (5+ year) followup

I am happy to report that this fix is in fact, permanent. It's been over 5 years since this original post and I have never had another problem with a coolant leak at this juncture. I did recently replace the coolant expansion tank, which had developed a crack. The XC90 continues to serve us well wit...

Re: Seatbelt/door chime wont shut up. What to check? 1997 8

I am havig this problem on my 850 but it only does it when it is cold outside. Chime will ring when I open and then stop when I close the door, but then a few min later will start to chime again. Im thinking I need to pull the door apart and check or lube the switch. I hear this door switch is more...

Re: Door chime wont stop 1998 V70 awd wagon

Actually, I think the problem is a lever that activates a microswitch.
I have posted a completed explanation here, complete with a picture:

Unfortunately, I am not sure it's an easy fix.

This is the problem! Complete explanation of the issue.

The issue is that there is excessive wear on plastic parts, limiting movement of a lever that activates a microswitch. I'm not sure why Volvo made it so complicated! Here's a complete explanation accompanies with the picture below. On the left you see a door assembly when the door is open, i.e. the ...

Re: Rear Wheel Bearing - removal and installation

No bearing mudflaps, huh? OE comes with them in the box, at least my rears did. See thread for a discussion-https://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?577363-Wheel-Bearing-Mudflaps Nice writeup ! Thanks - I did see that the OEM kits had those and I almost ordered a set of the deflectors just to s...

Re: Rear Wheel Bearing - removal and installation

$650   As you found, hubs are kinda easy. Biggest challenge is if the axle nut won't come off. I had to go to a shop to have one loosened once. Great writeup, Song. Scheduled for inclusion into the Volvo Repair Database. Thank's I'm home more, now working remotely since the office is ...

Rear Wheel Bearing - removal and installation

My normally smooth and quiet car developed a droning noise. I suspected a wheel bearing and had it verified by an independent mechanic. However, his quote of $650 to replace one bearing made me pursue this myself. I offer it up to help others save a bundle. New Part After much searching, I decided t...

Re: Fixing your flip /switchblade key - pics and advice Topic is solved

@theblues - the exact same procedure I described above will work. You'll have to get a new key blade cut, but that's not the expensive part. I have seen blank blades on eBay. What costs is the transponder and the programming required. Dealers will get you on that. It's been over a year since I fixe...

Re: 2004 T6 Tranny pan seal and filter cost?

You guys are up to $150 an hour in Silicon Valley because people keep Googling everything. 3 hours for those jobs is pretty reasonable - and doing it yourself will save you lots of chai latte dollars, Song. End of the day I had the shop do the tranny service. It's a messy job and I didn't want to d...

Re: 2004 T6 Tranny pan seal and filter cost?

I looked in my records and I purchased a gasket and filter from FCP for $87 back in 2015. Even if the fluid is $100, how is there over $350 in labor here? I am torn because I have been going to this independent mechanic for years and years and they do great work, but this pricing is killing me. Any...
