Re: Mystery intermittent stall, no error codes
Have you ever replaced the crankshaft position sensor? My 98 V70R shut off about a dozen times over the course of a month without setting a code. Sometimes it would restart right away, sometimes it needed 5 minutes or so. Seemed to happen on really hot days (>90 deg). Finally got a code when it didn...

'98 V70R - Leaking Turbo Coolant Return Pipe
My turbo coolant return pipe was leaking. The weld between the pipe and the mounting tab had corroded and cracked. New pipe is on order. I cut out the bad section of pipe with a Dremel tool, and clamped in a 5" long section of 3/8" ID, fuel injection hose. Went for a test drive, returned, ...

Must be nice to have a fuel gauge that works.

Re: 1998 V70 R - Low Intake Manifold Vacuum
Thanks for the info. I'll do the smack test first. Then I'll drill the holes. What is the acceptable/bad differential pressure across the catalytic converter?

Re: 1998 V70 R - Low Intake Manifold Vacuum
COMPLETE breather system replaced with new factory parts less than 3,000 miles ago. I measure 2.5 inWC vacuum at dipstick.
Catalytic converter, pipes, mufflers are original.

1998 V70 R - Low Intake Manifold Vacuum
194,000 mi on odometer. Starts, idles, and drives nicely. No check engine light. But I'm measuring a steady 14 inHg vacuum at idle with warm engine. Cylinder compression #1-5 are 178-180-175-178-180. New vacuum elbows at passenger side intake manifold, SAS valve, SAS solenoid. Tried propane to check...

1998 V70R Intermittent Vibration (176k mi)
I've got a vibration on my 1998 V70R AWD. Car has original wheel bearings, axles, and propeller shaft. Tires are balanced and have no unusual tread wear patterns. Vibration is noticable at 40 mph and is worst between 62 - 66 mph. No vibration at 70 mph. Vibration shakes steering wheel left-right-lef...

98 V70R - Oil thermostat and oil cooler hoses
I''m planning to ring in spring with new oil cooler hoses. Neither are leaking but @162k I feel I'm pressing my luck. My question has to do with the oil thermostat. How/when/why do oil thermostats fail? Should I plan on replacing the oil thermostat? I will be removing the existing one anyway in orde...

Re: Intermittant code P0300 on '98 V70 R
Ok, didn't find anything with the propane. But I did find a loose clamp at the joint between the MAF sensor and the air inlet duct to the turbo. I had loosened this to gain access while replacing the lower radiator hose. Got a full 3 turns on the clamp. I'm hoping this was the source of my intermitt...

Re: Intermittant code P0300 on '98 V70 R
I put in a new coolant temperature sensor during the thermostat/housing project you helped me with a couple of weeks ago. Thanks again. Temperature gauge is at mid-range, 3 o'clock position. No history of overheating. Talked this afternoon with a service manager at my local Volvo dealer. He doubts t...
