2001 xc70 dead xemodex etm
Hello all, Quick question. Does a dead ETM (Xemodex - 2 years old) cause the engine to not turn over at all? Background. Bought car 2 years ago. Dealer installed Xemodex. Recently, car has developed flat spot at about 1500 rpm, as if throttle pedal isn't registering until you push past the "dea...

2001 XC70 VVT cam seal - which direction?
Hello, Doing the belt/seals/pump/tensioner on this vehicle (260,000km) due to severe oil leaks. First did the flame trap and PTC turbo pipe. No change. The belt was done 40k ago, and looks like a new VVT exhaust seal as well, lip to the inside and flush with the front of the cyl head.. However, sinc...

2001 XC70 doesn't pull at idle
Hi all, First post. Bought the car about a year ago, and so far haven't really had the chance or need to get stuck into it. That's changed - the center prop shaft bearing carrier failed. Searched the forum for input, and found that I can pull the shaft and drive as FWD - perfect. Then get the bearin...

Re: cam timing adjustment
Thanks for the response Lee. I did spray the bolts and sprocket before disassembly - no problem putting them back in the same place. I'm questioning how they're set in the first place. Could previous owners/mechanics have moved them. If I assume they're right, should I realign the cams to jive with ...

cam timing adjustment
In the process of replacing a front cam seal, set the engine to the timing marks before disassembly. Agree with forum that crank gear marks are hard to find. Might be an assumption on my part, but the index marks I see are on the back of the serpentine belt pulley. which I carry across the crank gea...

Re: airbags/car won't start
That's understood,
Two seat belt tensioners, two airbag modules, crash sensor. Just want the ability to do it over several few days while keeping car usable as Mom's taxi for the duration.

Re: airbags/car won't start
Thanks, I do have the manual, but manuals typically don't give the ins and outs of a situation. The manual will assume the car is on the rack until the entire system is replaced\tested\$$$ spent\returned to Owner. I'm looking at more of a "dribs and drabs approach". I've already removed th...

airbags/car won't start
Hello all, Let me start by saying thanks for all the previous info I've gotten from this site. Kept my Volvo's on the the road for the past 6 years with virtually no dealer visits. However, my current problem doesn't have much in the database. Our car was in a relatively minor front end collision - ...

mode 2 light flickering
First time trying to read the mode 2 codes on socket 2. The light just flickers quickly. Mode 1 reads 1,1,1, but the car is running rich and is low on power (moreso than usual). The lambda light isn't lit either. Any ideas. Out of interest, how do you know if your mass airflow is functioning correct...
