2001 XC70 VVT cam seal - which direction?

Post by phendriks »

Hello,

Doing the belt/seals/pump/tensioner on this vehicle (260,000km) due to severe oil leaks.
First did the flame trap and PTC turbo pipe. No change.
The belt was done 40k ago, and looks like a new VVT exhaust seal as well, lip to the inside and flush with the front of the cyl head.. However, since most things I've seen on this car have been sketchily repaired, I question whether the seal goes in like normal (intake), or should it be reversed because the moving surface is actually outside on the VVT. The wear mark on the VVT shaft is very near the end.

Thanks
