I tried to splice them (larger and smaller one) back together with some temp resistant engine hose, but they're so brittle they just keep snapping like a pretzel.

So the final note is DO NOT close them off.

If I duct tape it, what happens to the air that used to flow from the trap to the intake? Will it build up and damage something else?

If it won't damage anything else, could I just "close off" the oil trap?

Does switching the fuel pump relay out trip the check engine light?

I had a similar intermittent issue after a spark plug change. Apparently, I loosened the ground wire when I was removing the coil packs. Check your connections.

I was moving some hoses/vacuum lines around looking for a disconnect and I snapped two plastic tubes/hoses (they were extremely brittle). One is the size of a vacuum hose, the other is much larger (about 1/2" internal). I'm pretty sure they vent the oil trap back to the air intake accordion. Ca...

Does anyone have a picture of a '99 S70 MAF sensor they can share?
I read an earlier post that stated that the '99 S70 doesn't have the delicate wire in the sensor like previous models.

I would like to see a detailed photo before I take the MAF/sensor off to clean.

Try cleaning just the throttle-body. Take the black, mass flow tube? off and clean around the outside of the butterfly valve and just inside.
