This seems nuts to me
There's no warning light on the dash for an alternator fault.
My serpentine belt snapped and the first warning you get from the car after that is a low battery warning when the battery runs down, shortly followed by the car stopping and all the electrics failing ...

It is a common problem, the ultimate fix is to replace the arm but this has worked out fine for me for a couple of years.

If you have a right hand drive the distance for the from the edge to the drilling point for the hole is reversed, rather than being in the same place as for a left hand drive.

Well the Velcro worked for a bit but then it started to come apart. I ordered the kit with the metal bits that replace the holes in the tailgate. This has worked fine so far and was very easy to fit.

well it will have a fuse so just check them all to be sure.

The ABS controller was faulty.
The headlights is probably the switch but they didn't have time to check it
The headlight switch is a factory recall on the 1997 850 so it'll be free next time.
Reversing lights was the switch.

The CD cartridge on my Cd changer (1997 850) was stuck when I bought it.
I took it apart (easy enough, just four screws) and removed the cause, which was a jammed CD. The in line fuse had also gone (probably due to repeated attempts to unjam the cd)
Having put it all back together it works fine now ...

I see your point, but If I flag up an idea and it turns out to be correct then they'd look pretty silly telling me it took them 3 hours to find the problem. If it turns out to be incorrect then I have lost nothing.
