Thanks! What I don't get is it goes straight to the radiator, not the air intake. Could this be used to help get the radiator up to temp?

I was doing a tuneup on my Volvo and noticed this metal hose that runs from the exhaust header around and to in front of the radiator. What does this do? How important is it that I replace/repair the tear? Thanks in advance.

Well I got the lower one in place after much fighting. It would seem the new o rings don't want to compress at all and I have to push really hard. Am I doing something wrong or is there a trick to getting the pipes to sit all the way that I am missing? Thanks for the quick reply.
