Hello all,
I have a 95 Volvo 940 non-turbo. Within the last two months I have changed spark plugs, alternator and alternator belt. In the last two weeks I have started hearing a whistling from the motor. I checked all the hoses and checked spark plugs as well as adjusted tension on alternator but it will not stop. It only happens under additional throttlewhether in park or driving but not idling. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

if you pull dip stick out, does it stop? My 03 s80 did it and it is crank seals pulling air in. The culprit is the flame trap (Volvo's) fancy name for pvc system. It becomes clog and motor pulls excessove vacuum and will cause seals to leak. It will cause engine to miss as well. I believe there is a youtube video. I was going to do one, but just did the job and motored on my way. Good Luck of the Irish to you my lad.

Thanks for the tip. Sadly it did not fix the whistling. I do appreciate it though.

The hoses from turbocharger to intercooler and intercooler to throttle are under pressure and could whistle if there was a leak or a hole. Also the hoses to the idle air control valve.
