Re: Tolerances on t5 turbo shaft play.
I don't know the scientific answer to your question, but that's probably not bad for as many miles are on that thing. I'd say it's fine, unless you blow a lot of smoke or burn a lot of oil, I wouldn't worry about it having a little play. Mine whines for a few seconds on cold mornings, but it's got ...

It's not rocket science is it. Yes, i'm aware that it's a good mileage, yes i'm aware that it needs a chunk spent on it to get it crisp again. But, to be honest, I think i've found the problem. The recent wishbone i put on (ball joint had excessive wear) was a pattern part, and i've got a sneaky tha...

Re: I thought replacing the fuel filter would be easy
Hey, Yeah mine was difficult to get back in to, really difficult. it's do-able buddy. If I can recall correctly, I had to slightly re-shape the holder as close to the original diameter and circlular shape because the holes wouldn't line up after bending the metal to remove the filter. I did this by ...

Yeah, it's plainly obvious that I should change every bush, washer and clip to conform to your exacting standards my friend. The car itself was bought for about 1200 of your dollars or clams or whatever you call them and i've done 50,000 hard miles in her. It makes no sense spending too much lolly o...

Re: Testament to 850 durability
How about this one..! After working for three days to get the beast ready for her mot. I woke up with ten minutes to get to the test centre, so the rush was on. Got in and the starter motor decided to play up due to a dodgey solinoid that I knew about. To be honest, it had been like that for ages an...

Tolerances on t5 turbo shaft play.
Hi. Okay, just been on a thread about PCT valve and went out and cleaned her out (all good), and while I had the turbo intake pipe off I just had a little feel to check how much play the turbo shaft had. Scientific apparatus (fingers) recorded a fore/aft of around 1-2mm, and side of about 1mm. Yes, ...

Re: Removing PCT Valve and Cleaning [1997 Volvo GLT Turbo]
Having just checked this thread, I went outside and cleaned the pct valve. Not that I have any major, noticable smoke coming from my dipstick, but just to do one of those jobs etc. Results thus; No blockage at all. Yes there was minimal crustation on the walls of the valve resulting in blockage of t...

Re: serpentine problem
I had this issue when I did the timing belt. Tried two different length belts and all manner of routing suggestions. Result, old belt falling to bit's and still on the car. Does the tensioner need to go past it's locking position (by locking, I mean where you can insert a drill etc to hold it in pla...

It's defo a component moving rather than brake pull in my opiion, as it settle's into it's new position and holds once loaded up with the power?brake force applied. Once the load is back to normal driving, she resumes normal steering whell position. I was worried it maybe the subframe bushes to be h...

Re: High Milage 850 Clutch Hose fault..Beware.
Yeah, The reservoir had me stumped for a while as It looked full. Arr..Master or slave cyl etc. It was only when I noticed the seperate chamber that all fell into place. I also agree that volvo would have designed the system to work forever, whatever the weather, so clips and mountings got mis-place...
