crazy idea -European road trip in a 240 -
Wife and i (USA) are contemplating a road trip in 2023 or 2024 From Athens to Estonia and back. I'm researching all the options but the one i like best is to buy a 240 wagon in the UK, register it in Bulgaria, make the trip and ship it home when the trip is over. I have not owned a 240 for 10 years ...

89 240 HORRIBLE gas mileage
The overdrive never worked in my previous volvo, (1990 240) and it got a steady 20 MPG. When I finally fixed the OD I expected a huge improvement but it only went up to about 22 mpg. My 89 240 also has overdrive issues, (see other post) but it get 15-18 MPG when the overdrive is working. It runs gre...

overdrive 89 240 - not electrical
It works intermittantly in warmer weather. When the car is good and warm it works after a few miles and works cinsistantly for the duration of the trip.
As it has colder the overdrive hasn't kicked in for weeks.
Al the electrical issues have been addressed. Where do I go next?

re: 1, OK, just so we're clear, I can understand the lights being on all the time but that's not exactly what we have here. If i start the car with the lights off, they stay off. If i turn the lights on they will not go off when I cycle the switch off. once turned on they will not go off until the k...

89 240 light mystery
There are multiple parts to this mystery, perhaps they are related; 1. When I turn the lights on the parking lights will not go off unless I shut off the car. It's as if they are getting power though a relay and remain energized until the key is turned. 2. The engine sputters when I cycle the head l...

I second the tranny flush. My overdrive was taking as much as 50 miles to work rigth. It worse as the weather is cooling. I drained and replaced the trans. Now it engages much quicker. Obviously it's still not right. I need to have a proper flush done but I'm still researching how the OD works and d...
