Vehicle Speed Sensor, but I can't think of any possible reason why a GPS would need that information. A GPS can calculate its own speed by noting the rate of change of the recorded position. Heck, my GPS just plugs into the cigarette lighter.Tsquared wrote:I'll bite...
Ok, what is VSS?

Neither can I but the speed sensor is mounted on the transaxle and has two leads coming out of it. One is green/brown, the other is green/yellow. They both go to the Transmission Control Module which is located on the right front inner fender panel. Green/brown goes to terminal 11, green/yellow to terminal 12.Vehicle Speed Sensor, but I can't think of any possible reason why a GPS would need that information.

Its this GPS http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Uf6MrlUFNq ... 105KDNX500 and it wants the VSS wire. Some one told me i could find the wire possibly under my dash or near the radio. So what is the exact color of it and possibly a picture or diagram.
Thanks

I have checked all of the wiring diagrams I have and can only find one reference to 'Speed and Radio'.
On the radio unit terminal 7 is marked as 'Speed'. Two leads, both yellow/black, come from that terminal. One goes to terminal B3 on the RTI control module which is located behind the centre of the dash. The second goes to the instrument cluster, exact destination not shown, with a branch off to the central lock/alarm control module.
These may be what you are looking for but there is no warranty, express or implied.

Ahhh, the speed-compensating volume feature! I'll bet that's what the VSS wire is for.billofdurham wrote:I have checked all of the wiring diagrams I have and can only find one reference to 'Speed and Radio'.
