Good luck! I've had the problem too. At 2500 RPM I get the same metallic noise. No clue from where it's coming. The best I could narrow it was under the dashboard. I'll look forward to what you learn.

The pump was fine. On further inspection is was the alternator and serpentine belt tensioner. All is fine now. Thanks!

The is a rattling sound coming from the area near my power steering pump when the engine is cold. When my 2000 S40 warms up, the sound goes away. It sound like marbles rattling around in a plastic salad bowl. Any thoughts?

When the LED's blink, a code has been stored in the car's computer. Have it scanned for the real diagnosis. Mine was a damper motor.

Before you start throwing parts at it, does the AC light blink when you first start the car? If so, the unit recorded a code that a dealer and a few lucky souls with the right code reader can retrieve. It may be a damper motor.

The dealer didn't know what was wrong either?
