That looks very much like the cruise control (autothrust) pump connector. The natural habitat of the pump is underneath the battery. If this is unplugged, your cruise won't work and will generate fault codes.

I'd agree totally with Jimmy. Some Lucas stop slip might help a little (it keeps the ATF thicker when hot), but the only fix for this will be to replace those seals.

Took my 850 for an MOT today.

This car is a 1995, so almost 17 years old. Original exhaust, original CAT, original MAF and a new O2 Sensor a year ago.

Here's how it did:
Some jaws dropped and looks of disbelief at the testing station this morning, seriously!

You'll need the codes to check of course, but I'd suspect a possible throttle position sensor failure there.
