Re: PO 412 code
The first thing was to check all the connections again. And of course, I found one that wasn't connected. After plugging in and clearing codes everything is fine. Operator error. I apologize for wasting the time of all 70 members reading this thread. The only lesson one could learn is to take pictur...

PO 412 code
After replacing the starter I noticed the Check Engine light. Quickscan revealed code 412 (Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve A Circuit Malfunction). It may not be related but I made a mistake connecting only 3 cables to the starter on my first attempt (the starter did not turn). After c...

Re: ignition switch replacement
I thought you would find interesting what was wrong with my car. First of all, it was nothing related to the ignition switch. During the initial check, the technician stated it sounded like low compression when the start attempt was made. He performed a compression check and found 60, and 80,80,100,...

Re: ignition switch replacement
I consider myself "electrically challenged" :) and I did not measure voltage levels at the connectors. Someone would have to explain this diagram to me, or better yet write step by step procedure (a YT video would be ideal.) The black plastic retainer with the wire bundle wasn't replaced s...

Re: ignition switch replacement
Yes everything is in a perfect shape. I even removed the electrical tape that was holding the wire bundle together to examine every single wire buy nothing looks bad.

Re: ignition switch replacement
The new distributor cap did not help. I also checked the cavities in the plastic retainer nothing was there, very nice and shiny.
What else can I check before I tow the car?

Re: ignition switch replacement
I think your thought is good. I unplugged the black plastic retainer (on the left side of your diagram) and then unscrewed two screws. When I was removing the ignition switch (the part with pins) it fell apart. The black portion of the switch was separated from the silver housing. It is too late to ...

Re: ignition switch replacement
No, it's not an oil. I replaced the seal a few years back. And, yes I ordered both. There was some kind of erosion on the rotor contact.

Re: ignition switch replacement
I did not replace the cylinder lock, just the ignition switch, and yes the battery was disconnected. The car does not have an antitheft transponder. It's a basic model with automatic transmission. I looked at the distributor cap and there was a lot of carbon build-up. I ordered a new one (I'm still ...
