have you had your car since the beginning or purchased it used? was this just a recent problem or one you got when you got the car? Sometimes you have to suspect the previous ownership.. or the dealer. From the beginning the seat belts have been quite weak in terms of retraction, but they did work....

Thanks for your response. To answer your question: No, the car has never been in an accident. I think that it is a coincidence that both belts seem to be quite weak in terms of their retraction abilities.
