Re: 98 V70R Piston ring dimensions

In the interests of completion, I have had confirmation from the good folks at Hastings* that the top compression ring has a radial depth/thickness of 0.135' + / - 0.008" (which to metric users is 3.429mm +/- 0.2mm). The piston this was designed from has a groove depth of 0.165" (4.191mm)....

Re: 98 V70R Piston ring dimensions

So, with the help of a friendly engine parts shop (that actually had what I needed!!!) I have some data. The ring dimensions are the same as an VW/Audi 2.2Lt 5 cyl engine also. There is some confusion out there as some of the B5234 family use a 1.2mm thick top compression ring (newer), some use a 1....

Re: 1998 c70 cracked head. Will V70XC turbo head work

I'm in the middle of playing with heads and engines at the moment! The 2000 head won't work without significant fiddling. I do know that a fully reconditioned head would go for around AUD$700-800. Is that too much??? Who knows. As for the job itself...It is well within the DIY scope. Plenty of info ...

98 V70R Piston ring dimensions

Hello everyone, I was hoping that someone could tell me what the dimensions of the standard piston rings are - especially the radial thickness or radial depth. The OEM part number is 31330721 (made by Mahle pn# 038 24 N0). I know the STD bore is 81mm and the top ring thickness is 1.50mm, second ring...

The guys at Berry Motor Group in Melbourne, Australia have done this with a 240. Neat job too - they are an indy mech shop. Nice guys there. Use your google-fu.

Re: 98 V70R Turbo rebuild kit from ebay = disaster

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I love being a cautionary tale. "Remember that V70R guy from down under…?" Don't be him. (BTW it's over 40*C here today or 100+ in US terms = summer) The kit was NOT a Mitsubishi kit, nor was it trying to be. I do strongly advise everyone to not try and save ...

98 V70R Turbo rebuild kit from ebay = disaster

Hi All, I just wanted to share my experience with a cheap rebuild kit for the TD04HL that I purchased from ebay. It had the correct number of parts, but the quality of the parts was abysmal. I could not use over 50% of the parts. Bearings/bushes didn't fit the shaft, the o rings were over size, cir ...

Re: V70R DTC EFI666 TCU error RESOLVED, TCM glitch

No problems at all! I just want to document the experience for others. I did find that the eBay wifi ELM327 OBD2 reader I bought was limited in its use in this case. Partly due to the non-OBD2 compliance of the 1998 electronics and the proprietary Volvo codes but also it couldn't communicate with th...
