my 1993 850 seems to have the same problem. the first thing i did to shut it up was pull the blue "relay", which i actually thought was just the speaker. my car has no security system, other than a sticker saying "i am a graduate student, therefore nothing in this car is worth more $10."

Thanks Lee. I switched back to the original instrument panel and read 189k miles. So i read that really nice odometer fix on this site, and took care of that, plus rolled my gauge forward to account for mileage on the other ins. panel. Now i get to watch my car hit 200k sometime this summer ...
