Well as it turned out is was the the wiring harness. Here's the photos with the tags :



everything plugged up...but as Abscate pointed out, there must be subtle differences in the harness pin positions.

Yes electrically, the old door was functioning correctly.
What I will be trying next is to move the wiring harness from the old door over to the new one.

I replaced a dented front (right) passenger door with one from the same era (04 I think). After mounting the door and reconnecting the wiring, none of the electronics but the speakers work.
