My brake master cylinder reservoir only has 1 outlet port on it, and it is on the left side, back towards the brake booster. That should be the one you use for the clutch. I don't know why you have 3 ports on yours and what other systems might be using brake fluid. You can barely see the connection ...

ECT sensor = engine coolant temperature sensor.

It's the sensor threaded into the lower portion of the thermostat housing. A little bit of a bugger to get to to replace. Even a corroded connector can cause hard-start issues, but will not cause a no-crank condition.

They are M8x1.25 thread. I used appropriate metric inserts.

That kit I bought from Amazon was under $50, and came with a bunch of inserts. I'll find many uses for it in the future, so adding a new tool to the inventory was a no-brainer.

The one towards the other end of the body panel has a large enough hole to fish them out. I bought a riv-nut tool and installed a new threaded insert. https://turbochuc...

The seal just happened to get forced out by the pressure without the piston there to retain it. You can pull the piston and check the seal(s) for any damage. Don't try and bleed it like that. Put a hose on the bleeder on the slave and open the bleed nipple. Let it gravity bleed (Do not mess with the pedal) a bit into a jar or other container under the car. That will work most of the air out. Close the bleed nipple. Re: 850 Hydraulic clutch Issue

Not having a clamp on that hose at the reservoir shouldn't have been an issue. There is no pressure in that line, or the reservoir itself. It just gravity-feeds the clutch master.

A clamp out it would mainly be to avoid accidentally knocking it off and losing brake/clutch fluid.

I think you may have gotten a bad unit, which is why the seal was pushed out. The only thing the reservoir does is keep the clutch master cylinder supplied with fluid. It is possible an LPT motor was swapped in at some point in the car's history. The liner is only falling loose around the opening, I can tack it pretty easily. That flexible edge piece looks like a workable solution. Did it bend around the corners, or did you have to cut 4 "straight" pieces? How many feet did it need - 10 feet enough? It's flexible. I bought the 10' section a...

If you're going to actually get a tune, go with Aaron at VAST. If you're not, follow Erik's advice and find an ECU first and then get the turbo/injectors to match.

At this point, I'd just stay with the 16T.

The T5 motor will fit, and the T5 ECU would work, but it's probably not going to be ideal for the AWD. Who knows.

The '98 V70R ECU (-455) would be an option, but you'd want to upgrade the turbo and injectors to that spec. They are also hard to find. Both the T5 and the V70R are HPT engines.

I'm not familiar with the V70 headliner retention, but does it use these retainers on the side towards the rear?

The pictures I linked in the first post show the two types. What's in there is the large bore "euro type" with the purple seal and tail on the seat. The other ones offered have a flat bottom, and are obviously shorter. My kit came with one of the longer ones, so I can use that to help rig up a solut...

Chuck, I’m having trouble with the visual here. The question was more in having luck swapping out the longer type with the no-loss tools. It's an easy enough process IF you can get the valve to clear the shut-off. Her car leaks down enough about every couple years, and it's most likely coming from the service port valve. I doubt OE or AM parts fo...

Any luck at replacing low-side AC schrader?

Working in the wife's '97 GLT, I've been noticing a slight leak at the low-side service port. (Minor bubbling) I picked up one of the "no-loss" replacement kits, and it would work great....if the valve in the car was about 6mm shorter. As it is, I can't get the shut-off valve to close after the old ...

How long have you been driving it since the battery disconnect? It could clear up after the ECU readjusts a bit. You could have a sensor that is out of spec, enough to cause an issue when the ECU is reset, but will then clear up after a while. My M4.4/green injector-swapped '97 does the same thing. ...

Turn it until the pin is fully out. The cover won't be able to be removed until the pin is fully removed from the housing.

"Keep it aside" means to just save it, as you may need it for re-installation, if the new seal kit doesn't come with a new one. Kind of bad wording, really.

Pull the dist cap and check the cap/rotor. While you're in there, make sure the cam seal isn't leaking/seeping oil all over the place. If they're old and dry and the PCV system isn't up to snuff, a boosted run could push oil past them, or push the seal out of place. Oil inside the cap would cause is...

Yes, B5254T. This is the original '98 motor, if yours is a '99 should be a B5244T with single VVT. That'll be awesome in a 240, my cousin really wants to do that with his. Installing wasn't really an issue. The bushing has a tendency to drive in crooked regardless, so I would just get it going and stop when I saw it looking crooked. The problem isn't running the AC/Defrost. It's the fact that the compressor will most likely NOT shut off when it should, especially at higher RPM/WOT.
Seeing as you use/want the AC to function, put the original ECU back in.

Yeah, we have a '97 GLT and dealt with this stuff. The '97 GLT is an M4.4 ECU, but is an oddball in regards to the AC command routines with the other M4.4 (98MY) units. They are coded differently. I guess I should've specified fuel trim and not necessarily fuel pressure.

I've only recently started messing with M4.4 tuning/flashing, so I'm still learning details here and there.

You know more about the Motronic M4.4 than I do, I imagine, but is there a chance that the ECU adjusted starting parameters based on fuel delivery with the old filter? Would an ECU reset help?

That ECU is from a '97 GLT, which is an M4.4 ECU. Your stock ECU in the '98 is also an M4.4., which means it should run fine. I'm pretty sure the low speed fan is supposed to turn on with the AC (when required) and the high speed with the engine temp. If you get NO (low speed) cooling fan when the engine isn't "hot" and the AC has been turned on, your high pressure switch is most likely bad. (This assumes that you have a g...

That is odd that grounding the trigger wires to the relay switches on the fan, but the app test trigger from the ECU didn't (seeing as you supposedly have good wiring from the ECU to the relay). It's worth it to check the sensor wiring. They can be finicky.

I don't remember where in the app the fan test was, but basically all it does it ping the fan relay from the ECU. It only activates the relay for a second each time you test it. That will at least rule out the ECU and it's wiring.

Re: Went to start my 850 after the winter -- lights on on but no starter at all!

The shifter in my T5 was like that when I bought it, and it always needed the Manual Override button depressed to shift it out of Park. Then one day, it decided to work properly, and I only need to use the Override button maybe once every 100 times. Won't be an issue when I get the manual trans inst...

Have a few small things to address, but it's all in place and the car is mobile again.

Re: LED code reader/ECC help

The LED code readers work for reading ECC codes on the '97 850's. It doesn't care whether the ECU is 4.3 or 4.4. The LED doesn't care but some of the 4.4 have the flash code routine some do not. He would be better off with a ELM327 and 850 OBD-II . Which was developed for the Volvo 850. For engine ...

Re: LED code reader/ECC help

I posted in here because it’s for a 97 850, not the 09 I have listed in my profile. Motronic 4.4 started showing up in some '96 850s. "97 is pretty much the year they moved to Motronic 4.4. I did the SAS delete on the wife's '97 GLT. I cracked open the ECU and just added the diode there. Easy enough.

The grommet for the base of the PTC is available separately from Volvo as part number 3507985, about 4 bucks. Very worthwhile to replace that!
Thanks for that PN. When I did the PCV refresh on both cars, that grommet was pretty soft and I wondered if a replacement was available.

Re: Service light mystery Topic is solved

For your '96 you should be able to use the "850 OBDII" app on your phone to clear it.

Used it once on my old '96 GLT and have used it on both of our current '97 850's.
