Was the reservoir cap open when you were trying to feed fluid with the syringe? Might've been a pressure issue with it closed.

Hope you can get it sorted out soon.

There is no piston to push on the syringe bleed. All there is to it is to open the bleeder on the slave cylinder and let it gravity bleed for a short bit (Really only if you've had the system apart/open (such as replacing a line or cylinder). Then close the bleed screw and attach a syringe full of f...

OK, first. Don't bleed the clutch on these with the brake pedal. Do the reverse bleed I have mentioned a couple times with a syringe. That will get ALL of the air out of the clutch system. Yes, I understand how the circuit is supposed to work, and that diagram isn't it. How are you attaching 2 hoses to that slave cylinder? The clutch fork does have some side-to-side play by default. Not a lot, but some. Your car is pretty low on km, so it's hard to imagine that being worn. Especially worn enough to cause problems. The problem in the link you posted is that the poster didn't install the clutch itself correctly. You don't have any problems or odd noises in your clutch actuation until it just fails. That ECU part number is for the '97 850 GLT LPT. Not going to work for you.

The standard '96-97 HPT "turbo" ECU ends in "-072".

The hydraulic tensioner can confidently go two timing belt intervals i.e. 150k. Chuck is just explaining how to reuse it. Unless the tensioner has high miles save some $ and leave it. The only issue with re-use is if you're on a time crunch, as you can't speedily force it back to its "home" position.

You can, and you might as well just toss a new belt on there while you're in there.

However, that engine *should* have the hydraulic tensioner, and you will need to remove it and S-L-O-W-L-Y compress it and lock it with the pin before you go to reinstall the timing belt.

Re: Odd 850 no start issue

Well, our '97 GLT has it...Well, had it. It was dead when we bought the car, so originally I did the diode bypass in the original ECU, but now that we have the ability to flash the ECU, I just disable the diagnostics for it in the tune. Is the SAS system working on your car currently? (Or do you have any idea?) It's possible it was dead to begin with and the VAST ECU was set to ignore those codes (I've done that on our car, as the system is removed). That code is for the air injection pump, it's wiring, or the relay. The low idle i...

ECT sensor = engine coolant temperature sensor.

It's the sensor threaded into the lower portion of the thermostat housing. A little bit of a bugger to get to to replace. Even a corroded connector can cause hard-start issues, but will not cause a no-crank condition.

Not having a clamp on that hose at the reservoir shouldn't have been an issue. There is no pressure in that line, or the reservoir itself. It just gravity-feeds the clutch master.

A clamp out it would mainly be to avoid accidentally knocking it off and losing brake/clutch fluid.

Re: Engine comparison 2.3T vs 2.5T Topic is solved

It is possible an LPT motor was swapped in at some point in the car's history. The compression difference, (9:1 vs 8.5:1) isn't all that much, and as stated, it would probably run mostly OK on the T5-R ECU. However...Looking at that "SAM" sticker on the ECU and a quick Google shows that *may* be a t...

Re: Engine swap question: from automatic to manual

A course of action that may work is to find a 96/97 turbo manual (sedan or wagon) to pick engine management pieces from. I haven't done the research for you, but if the 96 turbo cars used Motronic 4.4, then you could use the ECU, engine wiring harness and sensors maybe. 97 turbo cars were M4.3, but...

There's a lot to unpack here. Firstly, yes the engine will fit in the car. But that's the easy part. The hard part is integrating the wiring and engine management. Secondly, I have no idea if the manual trans from your 2.0 will fit the 2.3. I would think it *should*, since they are from the same mod...

Ah. The M4.4 Wiki link covers the conversion of an M4.3 car to an M4.4 ECU, but also the main purpose is for being able to adjust settings and parameters and flash a new tune file to the ECU. The focus is on the M4.4 units. The Bosch M4.4 code has been cracked pretty well, and the -607/-608 files li...

If you're going to actually get a tune, go with Aaron at VAST. If you're not, follow Erik's advice and find an ECU first and then get the turbo/injectors to match.

At this point, I'd just stay with the 16T.

The T5 motor will fit, and the T5 ECU would work, but it's probably not going to be ideal for the AWD. Who knows.

The '98 V70R ECU (-455) would be an option, but you'd want to upgrade the turbo and injectors to that spec. They are also hard to find. Both the T5 and the V70R are HPT engines.

You missed the point of my post. I know you have an N engine. You can use an RN engine in place of your N engine without having to add any of that stuff. You can swap the engine. Gain the better RN oil cooler set-up. Keep all of your current engine controls and ignition. Hell, you can keep the crapp...

Just do a built FWD 850 and install a Quaife differential. You can find a JY LPT engine pretty easily and drop it in your XC. Even a P2 LPT works fine. You just need to make a couple considerations for the N vs RN engine differences. N RN? From the Wikipedia page In 1998, with the introduction of t...

M56 is the 5 spd. M66 is a 6spd

There were FWD and AWD versions of each. Looks like the P2Rs got the 6spds. Non-R P2's got the 5's.

Your post is kind of confusing.

Are you wanting to pull the engine from the XC and put it in an 850? And then adapt an AWD P2 set-up to it?

You might take a tape measure and see if it has the 302mm (~12") front brakes on it. The caliper mounting brackets are the only pieces you *really* need, if everything else is junk. Rotors can be bought new, and the calipers are the same as the 280mm ones. Even if you don't want to do the brake upgr...

Re: Serp belt alignment off after alt install

Looks like a spacer missing on the bottom back side of the Alternator. Looked at my '98, the lower bolt does not stick out pass the Alternator housing like it does in your picture. That looks like a alternator case bolt, not a mounting bolt. The long, lower alternator bolt, that's a big pain in the ...

I'm pretty sure there's a DIY for replacing the Delta Link bushings (inner and outer) on this site, which pretty much gets you to the point of removing them (aside from popping brake lines and ABS wiring out of their clips). You can probably remove the brake calipers/lines from the arms and just car...

Turn it until the pin is fully out. The cover won't be able to be removed until the pin is fully removed from the housing.

"Keep it aside" means to just save it, as you may need it for re-installation, if the new seal kit doesn't come with a new one. Kind of bad wording, really.

When you do the ignition tune up, check behind the dist rotor plate to make sure the cam seal is still place.

If they're old and dry and the PCV system isn't up to snuff, a boosted run could push oil past them, or push the seal out of place. Oil inside the cap would cause is...

The problem isn't running the AC/Defrost. It's the fact that the compressor will most likely NOT shut off when it should, especially at higher RPM/WOT.

Re: Cold weather start but won’t stay running...CTS ??

Have you checked the CTS plug for corrosion? That could be causing a false reading also.

Had this issue with my '97 T5 last winter.

Re: 97 855R PCV 5/8 hose mod, what vacuum hose?

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Replaced the heater core in the wife's '97 GLT today. https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20855/2019susp/Misc/htrcr_1.jpg Used the ebay one that I've had on the shelf for a while, after we started to get slight whiffs of coolant from the vents occasionally. Re: 850 rear bumper bracket bolts

I'll be interested to see how those work, also.

I need to replace inner fender liners and a driver rocker cover on the 854, but I should have plenty of the plastic-coated ones on-hand for that.

Re: 850 rear bumper bracket bolts

I've been using these rivets for my cars. Regular ones work, but the plastic-coated ones are nice.
