Re: Non Scented A/C cleaning method?

I shampooed the carpets - steamed the leather seats - then treated them. Yes I know - probably not the best idea for longevity but there was some stubborn grime to tackle. Yesterday I ran my friends ozone machine in it with the air cranked and the windows closed, and for the time being it smells lik...

If you order the head from Crutchfield, they generally include the model specific harness adapter and 1U pocket for free. Just installed a 1U Pioneer MVH-X390BT in my 2000 V70XC in all of 15 min. Very nice helpful people there too.

The 10:1 water bleach mix sprayed down into the fresh air intake worked perfectly for the moldy lollipop smell - thanks for the pointer. Cranked up the A/C for the first time on my recently purchased V70XC and, although it works well, the smell coming from it nearly defies description. Another post about sticky buttons - with a solution

So I felt that it was about time to post about this since I have now restored the buttons on two older Volvos - a '98 S70 and now my 2000 V70XC. Like many others, I wasted time scouring the web for a solution, tried the various things proposed (rubbing alcohol, armor all etc) all with little result....

Re: Short bursts of washboard vibration on highway V70 XC

Overdue follow up for anyone in a google hole. This turned out to be a failing center bearing. Will be buying a new shaft from Colorado Drive Shaft but for now the issue is minimal. I was surprised though that after so much fruitless googling about "intermittent washboard" issues, if you google fail...

Re: Short bursts of washboard vibration on highway V70 XC

Just wanted to post a follow up for the sake of possible usefulness. Four new tires didn't fix the problem. I was lucky enough to go for a very long drive with my mechanic who said that he believed the sound was indeed either the driveshaft or the angle gear but that it was so infrequent that it was...

Thanks for the replies! Yes, Dirk, it was indeed the one in Scarsdale. An amazing find with such low milage and in very good shape. I will definitely start with the tires, If it persists, then based on what I've read about failing driveshafts, seems like it can't be too far gone as these short burst...

2000 V70 XC Short bursts of washboard vibration (failed centre bearing)

I recently parted with my very dependable 98 S70 base 5 speed of 10 years in favor of an automatic 2000 V70 XC SE with a mere 67,000 miles on it. Everything seemed to be perfect until I noticed that on the highway, only when going over 60 MPH there are occasional, short, one second bursts of "washbo...

Need to borrow ECU tool in Brooklyn, NY

Inspection time is upon me and the SAS code P0410 came up just in time. Need to do the SAS/airpump delete procedure - hoping to use the method whereby the diode is soldiered to the ECU. Seems totally ridiculous to buy this tool for one time use. Thanks!

That's exactly what I found - that the actuator housing didn't look like it was made to come apart. And I didn't have too much time to tinker with it. I ended up getting lucky that day and found a volvo shop in New Jersey that was dismantling an S70 and sold me the whole trunk lock assembly for $20....

Follow up - Pried off the turn signal lamp on the drivers side this morning. stuck my hand in the hole and not far inside, right before where the hose meets the charcoal canister was a gaping hole in the hose.
Wondering how many S70's have the canister located here.

I should add that I'm a bit confused about the other possible culprit written about here - the J hose by the vapor canister. Neither myself nor my mechanic were able to find it. Might it not exist on the S70 base non turbo?

98 S70 - The cursed P0455 - Purge valve and J hose

Re: Can a bad throw out bearing/slave cause this??

I do have the old plate. Will take a photo and post since maybe there's something I'm missing but I can say with confidence that there is definitely some height on the rivets. Mechanic commented that it wasn't a bad plate at all. Are you referring to the rivets as "fingers"?

Wildly erratic clutch slipping

Hi All, I'll try to sum this ongoing perplexity up without rambling too much. I noticed on a long distance winter drive last December that my clutch was getting slippery on the highway in gears 3-5. Regarding NYC street conditions: I just changed the spring seats for the second time in three years. The original OEMs are useless on bad urban streets. Bizarre incessant chatter in drivers side window switches

Last year when I purchased my 2002 V70 T-5, I noticed (no - rather I was closer to tormented by) a loud chatter very much like the sound of wind up dentures from the novelty store, coming from the window switch cluster every time it got below about 40F. Within about 5 min of driving it would slow do...
