Re: 2001 Side Impact Sensor location (SRS light on)
Found it. Inside the B pillar, pretty easy to get to. -Remove bottom trim for each door (front is silver and says "Volvo" remove two screws and pry, back is plain black just pries off). -Remove bottom B pillar trim (black on mine, just kinda pries off from both sides). -Peel back gray soun...

[SOLVED] 2001 Side Impact Sensor location (SRS light on)
Airbag light on - code reads as left front side impact sensor, signal faulty. Live data shows the same. Resetting of light using advance scan tool does nothing, meaning the fault is probably real, or could be a bad SRS module. Where is the sensor? How do I change it? I guessed under the seat but cou...

Re: Slowly failing climate control unit
These units are pretty unique to the old 40 series. I doubt you'd mix em up with another model. I'd definitely check the connectors. Maybe hold of on taking the unit itself apart until spring if you're worried about losing it. Mine seems to not work here and there... full heat or no heat sometimes. ...

Re: S40 Transmission Fluid Question
Just change the fluid using JWS 3309 spec fluid. Don't use a flushing machine. Just drain the fluid, undo the cooling line, and keep adding and draining fluid until it's clean. BTW, an OEM isn't going to recommend a service that can be stretched to 100K or more. At that point, they don't care much a...

Re: Dim Lights
Disclaimer: you're in the wrong S40 forum - this section is for 2004 and older, 2005+ were redesigned cars from the ground up. That being said, based on what I know about the older 40 series, dim lights usually indicate bad relays on the CEM (central electronics module). New, heavier duty relays can...

Re: 2002 S40 cuts out at high RPM and flashes check engine light.
When this happened on my S70 I just did a full tune up. I did a full tune up on my V40 as well, didn't wait until it got bad, just prepped it for winter. It's cheap insurance on the 40 series compared to the 70. I'd only replace the coils if they show damage or obvious sign of malfunction. Otherwise...

Re: Faulty Fuel Gauge
I always go with the best reputation fuel pump units (or factory) since a faulty fuel pump is the ONLY thing that has ever left me stranded in a daily driver and there's no way to do a patch on the side of the road... Anyways, I'm fairly sure there's an access panel underneath the trunk carpeting, s...

Re: next noob question: How often should I change my oil?
Is it a turbo model? If so, seriously, don't stretch oil change intervals. Run synthetic and change every 5000 miles. The turbos run hot and since they have engine oil running through them, they turn oil into goop over time. Had an S70 with a bad rod knock since the PO didn't change the oil often en...

Re: Mystery battery drain
The battery itself might be bad. Had this happen on my v40. Those drainage rates aren't that high I don't think. In my case, the battery was simply bad. It held a charge, for a bit anyways. Auto parts store did a charge on it, again, held a charge but ran very hot, so I got a new one. No issues sinc...

Greenman - do you still have the Dolby dash? What's it worth to you?
