Re: Exhaust replacement on 2007 XC70 Topic is solved

Just curious. How much power do you expect to extract from your engines so that you feel the need for larger exhausts? If it's just for sound then catback or even just the rear muffler will get you quite far. I have a downpipe. The stable boost went up from 10 to 12 PSI, with spikes over 14 PSI. It...

Re: E85

The finns wouldn't waste alcohol by pouring it in the tank rather than in themselves ;-)

Re: E85

There's probably etanol in all petrol over here by now, perhaps with a rare few exceptions. It was described as a catastrophe beforehand but then nothing came of it. We were promised all our cars would brake down and so on.

Re: E85

Ethanol has a higher octane than petrol.. However the car won't like it. Some people around here seem to get away with a 50/50 mix without the ECU complaining. I ran an old 850 on E85 for a few years by sticking turbo injectors on a NA engine to compensate for the extra 20-30% fuel needed. Worked we...

Re: Low oil after road trip

As for the question here. Was it actually filled up or did your mechanic just check that the level was ok? If the latter the actual amount of oil used doesn't really need to have been that much. Just top it off and make a note so you know if it happens again how much has been used. It could just be ...

Re: Low oil after road trip

New cars using a litre per 1500 miles being normal is just poor excuse for sloppy tolerances though.

Good thing ICEs seem to be going away. Then we'll get other things to sorry about than oil consumption ;-)

Re: Now I’m considering a 2004 V40. At what point am I a “Volvo guy?”

It's a Mitsubishi in a Volvo suit. Personally I don't think they're up to the Volvo badge. I'm also a bit biased since my brother has had more issues with his S40 in a year than I've had in five years with two other Volvos.

Re: Favorite Brake pad?

All the big brands have different series of pads. The Bosch stuff I put on my car lately was in part made in China, though I think it might have been the discs. I'm curious to try ATE Ceramic pads since they're not too expensive and supposed to be relatively dust free. Current Bosch standard pads an...

Re: PCV R&R - Losing the battle to the dreaded hidden Intake bolt

I used two short 1/4" wobble extensions. One long one didn't work as I needed the bend in the middle as well. That plus as regular short 1/4" socket. Worked a charm.

Re: POLL What octane gas is everyone using?

Swedish prices are generally very unrepresentative of costs throughout the rest of Europe though. It is really rather irritating going to Sweden to visit my partners parents and paying 40% more for the exact thing I bought just before flying out (water, food/beverages - its actually more like 60-70...
