O2 Sensor

Post by 850 T5 »

I am using Alex Pepper's software on both my 1997 850 GLT and 1997 850 T5.
I have no CEL on, however, my mileage is terrible on the T5.
I have done the tune up (plugs, etc) and have checked the MAF connector.

The GLT has readings for Bank 1 and Bank 2 oxygen sensors.
The T5 only shows Bank 1.

Could the lack of a Bank 2 reading on the T5 indicate a bad sensor, even though there is no CEL indicator?

Are you getting black smoke? have you checked for air intake leaks useing an unlit propane torch? The MAF reads the amount of air telling how much fuel to add. the O2 sensor reads the exhaust to see if has been properly burned and the second O2 checks that the cat has done all that is necessary for the emisions to be correct. If all are in proportion no CEL.

850's don't use the bank system. What type of mileage are you getting? If it's real bad, I bet anything it's a vacuum leak.

I am geting about 18 mpg overall (city/hwy).

There's no smoke, black or otherwise, however, there is some black soot buildup on the tailpipe.

A little below what I get (22mpg). Check vaccum lines like W8T said. They are thin white plastic lines in the engine bay. Check elbows also.

Normal, I have the same, and I see 850s everywhere with sooty pipes.
