Radio Code Blues

Post by NoTunes »

Had a dead battery over the weekend. After restoring things back to normal, my radio now asks for a code.
I put in the four digit code - the one I found on a little card in the manual in my glove box. No dice.
I bought this car used - so I am not sure if this is the original radio - It is a Volvo OEM radio, but I dont think it is the one that came with the car.
Will the Volvo dealer be able to reset the code or do some such magic - or am I SOL ?
Thanks much for any advice.

Does the radio have "off" or "code" on the display? You will need to wait about 2 hours with the key in position II before you can enter the 4 digit #.

Just a question, what would make the radio go into the "off" mode? I have unplugged the battery to do work on the car and then after plugging the battery back on, the radio just asks for the code which works fine.

Entering incorrect codes 3 or 4 times.

Thanks for the reply Jot.
I input the code three times (apparently the incorrect code - DOH! ) and now my radio says OFF.
I definitely have the wrong code. It is not the one that corresponds to the VIN Number.
I wonder if the dealer can pull up a code if I were to give them the S/N off the radio..

If you push the two tabs on the radio you can pull it out and there might be a code written on the unit. Thats how I found my code when I had to disconnect my battery.

Thanks for your replies.

For future reference :

I went by the local Volvo dealer (Barrier Volvo Bellevue - Very Helpful Service Dept btw)..
Gave them the S/N of the radio (If you pull the radio out, there is usually a sticker on the top - the S/N is also stamped on the side). They got me the code in a couple of mins..
Had to wait two hours with the ignition on I for the radio to revert to CODE from OFF..
Code works ! Back to scheduled programming on NPR !

Barrier and Ravenna are both very helpful dealers, I've found.
