Well I guess I spoke too soon. Drove pretty aggressively trying to make it to a store in time. Got home, smelled oil burning, opened the hood to another MESS.
whoa is me.

Crap on rye. How's compression in this motor? Are we into deep internal faults ?
The other thing that could be hurting is the oil return but I didn't think that causes over pressure of the block
It might be worth checking boost via waste gate valve adjustment to see if it's overboostig or even just disconnecting the turbo control valve to isolate turbo boost as your source of crankcase pressure.
Tough one, Dan. Hang in there.

Oil return is a good idea. Wish it wasn't such a pain to check on a 99 R.

A week or so ago I checked the oil return with the 5/8 hose. I connected it and blew through it and poured oil into it. Everything checked OK.
Since this did not have a problem with pressure in the oil pan before I replaced the PCV system, I doubt it instantly has bad compression.
When I pulled it all apart weeks ago and found the soft hose that made the noise. I replaced with with a longer hard plastic hose. Then when I checked it all last week, I pulled the "E" up where I could check things. I plan on cutting it and blocking both sides. Then check again. I am unsure of why they needs to be connected at all anyway.

oh and I am having more overboost CELs. Not when flooring it, just a two times (of >20 times) when easing into gas pedal to entry highways.

Dan - could someone have messed with the boost on this car?
Unlike the earlier generation the ME7 does not tolerate much slack in the boost adjust. I think Jim says if you turn an ME7 more the 1/2 turn you are asking for trouble.

Well that worked.
Tried this first with "E":

Drove it hard for 15-20 mintues and it was fine so I installed a check valve:

Drove that for a HARD hour. Had to floor it around 100 times, 30 of them until 75mph. Loops and off ramps and acceleration and again.
Still looked like this after:

Dip stick was still down and no oil spraying out of anywhere.
Pretty happy. Took a friend for a ride since its running so damn good:D
got it home and:

A new issue popped up. I was two hours from home (all highway) and started hearing a repeating scraping sound each time I slowed below 55mph. Took to it to a local midas to get it up in the air and I think its the front prop shaft CV joint.
Doesnt look centered here and could wiggle it a bit.

These are replaceable, correct?
This guy or ?

Colorado Driveshaft are the normal go to for many here for this issue. Does look like the bearing has failed. It gets very warm by the cat and this is the joint that usually goes, often shortly after by the main support bearing in the middle.
Sorry to hear bout the bad luck.
Neil.

Not sure I would call it bad luck, from my reading (I've never owned one) pretty much every one of those 98-99 prop shafts fails?
People either replace them or pull it and run as FWD.
