Power Window fuse #37

Post by Beckyrialto »

All four of my Power Windows won't go down. When I press the power window buttons I hear a loud clicking.
I had a Volvo repair shop replace the master switch; all windows worked for 5 days then the same problem happened.
The shop suggested it was the wiring harness, so I switched the door out completely. Still just clicking. I replaced the Window Master switch - still no luck.
I read in another thread (https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=32530) about the fuse/circuit breaker in slot #37 under the hood. I decided to take a look and discovered this slot is empty!

So my question is this...should there be a fuse in slot #37?
(It is not a regular fuse - small thermal-type circuit breaker in a shiny rectangular aluminum housing. Someone else referred to it as an "auto reset circuit breaker", not a fuse)
Thank you very much.

Schematically it is a fuse but the proper device is in fact a circuit breaker. If it is bad you can get a replacement at just about any auto parts store.

just b/c the relay clicks doesnt mean its good or it has a good ground/power feed. Should be located under the center console right with the harness.

Our 1999s are " special" Becky. Our windows are controlled by the early CanBus ( electronic modules that talk to each other ) rather than analog controls on the 1998 and earlier

I'll try find my electrical from Alldata and post up.

Here you go...relay 2/30 would be one I would suspect

The window down relay is actually part of the master switch in a P80 S/V 70.

2/30 ( AKA Relay 105 ) is an accessory overload relay.
If it was Tango Uniform, a bunch of other systems would also be inop.
Do all of your other electrical accessories operate as they should?

And '98 - '00 S/V's are all the same. No Canbus for the windows in a '99 S/V.
Just a master switch, the driver's auto down relay, local switches and motors.
P80's don't get weird until the later C70's, and of course the the P2's (2001-)
are a whole different ballgame. The P2's may be what you're referring to.

To answer the OP's question, YES - There needs to be a breaker in the 37 slot.
Seems kind of odd that the windows worked for 5 days, quit, and now that breaker
has disappeared... And you need to pull the fuse box cover to get to it. Weird.
Am I getting this story right?

The Sunroof also uses the breaker in 11C/37 as a power source. Does it work?

If you get a breaker back into that slot, I'd suggest popping the master
switch out, unplugging it and seeing if the sunroof operates correctly.
If it does, you probably have an issue in the window system. The master
seems to be the culprit 99% of the time, but a bad local switch can trip
the breaker, too.

Also - What's the pedigree of your "new" window switch? Just curious.

You are getting the story right - I left out one detail, though...the "working for five days" occurred about a year ago, and it has been back to the Volvo repair shop several times since...always working on the window issue. I am thinking maybe the technician took it out and forgot to put it back in.

The Pedigree of the "new" master switch...funny you should ask...I took it out of another (almost identical) blue 1999 V70 Wagon that I purchased specifically for the wiring harness (as that is what I thought the problem was). However, before I bought this "parts car" I made sure the windows went up and down, because I didn't want to run into the same problem. All windows worked fine on the "parts car". My "good" Volvo now has the door, wiring harness, and all the other door wires from the parts car. So it "should" work perfectly!

I tried both master switches, and neither work. Mine just clicks, and the "Parts car" one makes a slightly different noise, sort of a whirring. But neither make the windows work.

Also, I don't have a sun roof. I didn't try the power locks, but I will do so now.
Thank you Very much for your help. Becky

On my 1999, the 38 slot is open and the 37 is full.

I think they put the breaker in the wrong slot.

Sorry about the misdirect on the CANBUS- the 1999 is a hybrid and I got caught on that one.
