You are all such an amazing group of people. I just did this repair on my 2000 V70. With the excellent step-by-step instructions and pictures, it was a breeze. Thank you so much!

Thanks for bumping this thread. My V70 rear wiper was in 'tailgate open only" mode a couple of years ago, but working fine now. Im sure I have one of these same wires open and will certainly bookmark this for a warm winter day project.

This was extremely helpful. I had the exact same problem, same place and everything. Four cut wires, and since I kind of knew where to look, only took about thirty minutes. I can finally lock my tailgate again without having to climb over the seat to unlock. Thanks a million.

Quite often the copper strands break inside the insulation so give each individual wire a good tug where the wire bends at the tailgate hinge point.

One other issue I have seen is where multiple wires short out at the tailgate hinge point due to insulation break down, left unrepaired such a short circuit can cause wiring fires, I spent two days re-wiring a phase two V70 that had suffered extensive wiring failure (burnt cables) that started from the tailgate hinge point. In this instance the shorted cables had also managed to damage the CEM - If in any doubt give these wires a good inspection as they will fail at some future point - Mike
