Volvo Repair Database 850R ecu in Turbo model?

Post by andrewrwc »

What, if any, improvements in power would you see if you installed an 850R ecu into an 850 turbo model.. Would this increase the boost to 850R psi as well as fuel compensation? Just curious as to what would I expect if I installed a 96 850R ecu into my 95 turbo... Thanks!

Not sure what will happen. You might set some trouble codes if all of the "devices" in your car don't match up with those from the ECU. Maybe others would have a better answer for you.

For anyone interested, I installed my recently acquired used 850r ecu today. Absolutely no error codes whatsoever and it increased the boost from 9 to 14psi instantly. I have not had this car very long so I dont know what else could be attributing to it but that was an easy, cheap plug and play increase in power. Who knows, the car may not start tomorrow but it worked today flawlessly!

Is there any follow up on how your car turned out? I'll be plugging my R ecu into my Turbo this afternoon so I'll be reporting the results too. The only thing I looked out for was the year ranges of the 850 (i.e. keep 1994 & 1995's together and 1996 & 1997's together)

Just to follow up (7 months later) everything worked out great. I did the stage zero before and everything was happy. A great safe mod.
