97 850 ECC No Defrost/Heat another fix

Post by combatkarl »

Hello,
Using inspiration from "marginal" https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=24106 and "mercuric" - https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 0&p=275374
I used another method for the broken plastic female shaft that moves the dampener. The plastic shaft was broken close to the HVAC duct. I replaced the metal shaft in the electric motor with brass square tubing. Cut the the tubing to an appropriate length so it would fit right into the broken plastic shaft. I misplaced the measurement, but it was approximately 1 7/8".

The brass tubing is 3/16" square. K&S Precision Metals Stock #153. Should be available at local hobby (R/C) shops or ACE Hardware. A little electrical tape on the brass tubing will make it fit snuggly into the electric motor.

Now to sort out the Blinking Lights on the ECC. Hopefully my code reader, thanks to "jreed," will work.
