98 V70 T5: Meyle Upper Torque Bushing Too Small

Post by sleddriver »

I went to install this today only to discover it's too loose! Slides right in with no effort. Outer encasing is metal, rather than plastic too. Someone else noted this on FCP as well. The old one is a Volvo part, installed on Jan 2012. Has 32,438mi so far. Corners are just beginning to tear.

Anyone else had problems with the Meyle bushings being too small?

Update:
I contacted Meyle USA in Calif. about this and received a prompt reply, even on a weekend. Seems the HD versions are a bit smaller dia. than Meyle std & Oem. By about 2mm. With the HD unit having a metal shell, it'll clank inside the metal ring when loose. Not sure why they would make two parts, yet both are not the same size.....odd that.

This was a needless complication for such a simple, inexpensive part.....

AutohausAZ has issued a RA # & pick-up tkt, so I'll be returning it to them for a refund.

That's funny... I have a poly bushing (I THINK it's iPd, I bought it lightly used) and it moves around quite a bit. I haven't noticed any issue, though.

No, it doesn't clank. I could definitely see that being a problem with the metal sleeve bushing.

It's a cheap part already if you go with Lemforder or OEM. :)

Unfortunately AutohausAZ only carries the Meyle part and some other, if I correctly recall. RM Euro does have it though. For now, I've reinstalled the OEM bushing and it's doing well. Not that old really. And with all the other mounts replaced, the stress on it should be FAR less than previously.

Still puzzled why Meyle would do this.....first say it's due to an "enlarged" donut hole, then find out no the hole is fine, it's the NEW mount of yours that's too small.......WTH?????

FUBAR......

Many vendors sell this part, not sure what you're getting at. FCP has Lemforder for $10, probably others do too. You can buy it from Volvo for maybe $18.

I agree the Meyle part is a real head scratcher.

I too ran into this issue. I just continued to run to bushing that was installed when I bought the car..

A few months back, I made a big order from both Autohaus & RM Euro. To meet the free shipping minimums, I bought the Meyle from AH instead of another brand from RM Euro. In the future, I'll know the Meyle HD unit won't properly fit. Lesson learned.....
